Need skis, need recommendations for old man

Last pair of skis I bought were atomic rituals back in 2013... didn't get them out as much as I wanted over the years but they've been good for the 3 or so times a season I've managed to get out.

My daughter turned 5 last year and she absolutely loves skiing, made it out with her and the wife (also new to skiing) 30+ times last season. This means I can justify buying myself some new ones. Mostly ski our local hill, Pass Powderkeg, but got out to castle mountain a few trips last year.

What would you suggest for some skis for putting around the hill with the little one? I have a background in racing, was a ski instructor and skied for southern alberta freestyle team back when fortress was still alive.

Looking for something playful on the groomers that can do the occasional park lap to show off in front of my girls. Also want them to be substantial enough that I can bomb the hill when I sneak a couple laps while they're having lunch. Probably do a few trips to louise, fernie, sunshine and for sure castle.

Been out of the ski gear for a long time. Any help is appreciated

My dad has blizzard rustler 10s, nobody on here has probably skied blizzards before and I haven’t either so I couldn’t vouch for them specifically but he’s had them for 5 years or so, they’re stiff and my dad uses them for pretty much exactly what it seems like you’re asking for and he loves them.

They are pretty soft skis. Softer than sender free 110's but super lively. (nice snappy flex) Carve exceptionally well, pretty light but can hold their own in mixed conditions. blister has a pretty good review. https://blisterreview.com/gear-reviews/2019-2020-blizzard-rustler-10

Rode some for a few seasons before outgrowing.

K2 Reckoner 102, armada stranger and icelantic nomad (100 or 106) are also some to look into. Icelantics graphics were quite good this year

Solid recommendation. Moment recommends them for people who plan to do less than 50% park since it’s more progressive mounted vs the frankenski. Super playful but not a soft noodle so still really usable most other places on the mountain. And being a 101 you still get decent float if needed. Handles hardpack fairly well. Doesnt need tons of speed to be fun but will happily charge when the going gets good.

Look into the season line-up, the kin is a really fun ski for ripping around groomers and the wide twin tip lets you hit park and pow all while having fun on the groomers. My best recommendation for a do-anything ski. Plus season has a really good warranty, and will help you get your skis fixed if you need it.

Not commenting about the skis but me and my homies dad's would always take park laps with us it was so fun, definitely super fun watching the geezers hit booters and ride on boxes (one of them even hit the 70 footer at Carinthia and tore his acl lol).

Ur post reminded me of that, skiing with ur kids is probably the greatest feeling in the world cuz I know for sure that seeing my dad shred was up there for me hahaha

Honestly for the skis you didn't mention a preferred width, but if you don't mind wider skis Rossi Sender Frees and Solomon Blanks are typically what I see older people who shred riding. Both can be park skis (sleepy and Jonah make them look that way at least) but are mostly all-mountain and they definitely have some play, but are stiff enough to charge. On the pricier side though

I’ve heard the rossignol sender free’s are great. If you’re just ripping groomers check out the sakanas

If ur not off put by going wider, the rosi sender 110s are an amazing option. As well as the rosi black ops. I’m 5’10 & 166, I really like the Playmaker 101 for skiing the way u described also.

is there a under 110 ski that feels like sender frees or blackops? I love my blackops so much I have 2 pair but I really need a skinnier ski

never, is it a pretty damp ski like blackops? they seem to have a lot less tip rocker. seems like liberty skis to go on good sales at the end of the season though might have to keep an eye out

Yea I’d say so, it’s definitely stiff and damp. Great quality skis, underrated brand.
