Trump raised tariffs the last time he was in office by around 10%. So if a 50$ good came in, someone had to pay $5 to the government. Either the company or the customer has to pay for this. Knowing the ski industry, were gonna pay it.

Now he's promised a 20% tariff while threatening up to a 50% tariff if he's put into office(+a confirmed 60% tariff on goods from china). Potentially industry crippiling numbers. Or not. The argument could definitely be made that this would bring manufacturing back to the US. But either way, it will take time and things will inevitably be more expensive.

For instance with moment everything is sourced from the us i believe except for their edges and beech wood which both come from Europe. Then you have bamboo cores for the frankenskis, which I believe most reputable ski companies get their bamboo currently from China. I know On3p does and I believe moment does as well.

Almost everything is from another country or contains parts/materials from one. and its not like his lobbyists would let him stop the companies from increasing the prices to cover this.

Like seems odd that both trump and kamala have been in office and are talking about really going all in on certain issues that they didn't really pursue that hard when in office. So if elected he's really gonna impose way higher (up to 6x) tariffs across the board on all chinese imports? I kinda doubt it.

hi_vis360I think you are being too alarmist. People were freaking out about trumps tariffs the first time, some things got more expensive but overall it wasn’t a huge change and Biden kept I think all of them in place. I’m pretty sure Biden enacted tariffs against Canadian softwood lumber, so really these policies are more bipartisan than it would seem. Both candidates want to grow US manufacturing, I think that’s a good thing. I think the democrats have a proven track record for investing in infrastructure including manufacturing (chips, car batteries) over the past 4 years so I’m going with them.

midwestcoastTrump's biggest tariff target is gonna be China. Only a few hardgood companies are there that I know of. Most of the textile products are pretty well diversified across other countries in SE Asia and most ski hardgoods come from Europe

Obviously big talk but if true, sure the cost of goods may increase incrementally until manufacturing makes its way back stateside BUT you will be saving thousands in tax dollars! The federal income tax is 22-32% for most Americans. Fine, the skis I buy once every few years went from $800 to $850, ill pay that and keep my $40,000/year the Govt has been taking from me to fund pointless wars, send money to the Taliban, and line the pockets of govt contractors and corrupt officials. Seems like a fair trade to me.

The US tax system is broke af. Completely upside down. No tax is the best tax but can you imagine taking the current tax structure and flipping it?

Based on economies of scale, federal government should be able to do just fine with 1 percent, but imagine what our communities would be like under a flipped program. How much better our daily lives would be. How much better funded our local resort towns would be. The ability to create housing for resort employees without having to beg daddy govt for funding or create patchwork, bandaid legislation to try and move the needle. It makes you think about how much waste there is giving it to DC and wtf they do with it.

PoikenzDo you realize that in order for tariffs to replace income tax you would need to impose a 70% increase at a minimum across the entire board? This % only works if you assume that doing so would change no other economic variables.
