What should I get for gear? I'm starting completely from scratch!!!

(also hmu if you wanna ride in SLC)

Imagine, it's 2011. You just got back from the mountain after skipping class again. You rip a bowl, cook up some mac, and kick in on the NS forums. The cults are active, Arabian is trolling, the people are clamoring for Eheath to be a mod. Arabian gets banned. A few days later, a pinkname? How? You get on NSchat and all the homies are there. More skiing tomorrow, no responsibilities. All is well.

Gear room in SLC for used gear and clothing for a good price. Invest the most in boots, paying for a boot fitter is 100% worth.

depends what type of skiing ur doing. if you are going park definitely vishnus or some on3ps. on3p also has a lot of options for all mountain and powder if that’s something you are interested in

It really depends what you're looking for. For boots, you should always get what fits you best.
For skis, if you just want something comfortable and all-mountain that'll get you back into it, the Line Pandora 104 is a great all around ski that's on sale on Evo.com right now. Elan Ripsticks are another great option that's usually on sale. My girlfriend also really likes her 4FRNT MSP 99s and you can probably get a great deal on them tonight.
If you want the best, most durable freestyle skis ON3P is still it, but they're not cheap. Moment is top quality too, but their graphics are divisive.
If you just want to fit in with everyone in Little Cottonwood, the Dynastar M series are great chargers. I don't know much about park skis, most people here either get Vishnus or whatever is cheapest.

vishnus are great if you're looking at new park skis, and Yomie shop has a lot of gear from smaller brands (some are kinda pricey tho) and also they may have vishnus in store as well
