In 2023 the first ski area in the country was a little-known hill in Shrewsbury called Ski Ward. They were able to claim this title again in 2024 using their Latitude 90 snowmaking system that can make snow in 70+ degree weather. Luckily, I was able to score tickets and check it out on Saturday, October 26th.
Ski Ward is an easy forty-minute drive from Boston. After cranking the tunes and checking out the foliage I was there.
I’m a pretty diehard skier and I was super stoked walking in and seeing that pile of snow. It was a beautiful day with temps in the sixties and not a cloud in the sky. However, I still had to pick up my ticket. To buy a ticket you must order ahead online, and then pick it up in person. Tickets are five dollars for a ninety-minute session, and there are four ninety-minute sessions from 11-5. I picked up my ticket from the ski lodge that had a bar and restaurant in it. I have no clue how the food is because I brought a PB&J from home, but it seemed pretty nice.
After strapping on my boots, it was time to ski. I was super stoked about this and walked up to the magic carpet. One of the few negatives of their setup was that you have to unclip and stand every time on the magic carpet. Once I was at the top, it was time to ride, the slope was steeper than an average carpet and pretty fun. There was a side jump big enough to 360 off and a rainbow rail. The slope is about xxx feet long.
I met an off-duty employee/park crew, who said they were working on getting more features put in. He asked his boss if he could put in a PVC rail, but sadly his boss said no.
The vibe there was super sick, there were maybe 10 other dedicated skiers and boarders, all cheering each other on. The employees were super chill and nice. People were filming and just having a great time getting some early season laps in. There were several other beginners, but there was still never a line for the carpet.
In conclusion, I had a super sick time, and it was great. In addition, they’re hosting a rail jam on Saturday, October November 2nd that I’m now going to go to as well.
If you guys have anything else to say about it, please comment it!
