Am i cooked

Clip from my first ever 3 last season. I’ve been skiing my entire life of 17yrs and I’m absolutely shite. I pretty much exclusively do big mountain stuff at snowbird now and never really grew up at a resort with a park. Even so I regularly get up 60 days a season so I feel like I should be much better either way. I’ve been trying to figure out tricks but I deadass have zero air control whatsoever. I’ve gotten better since(was my only clip) but barely. This season I plan on hitting the park more since I bought myself a Brighton night on top of snowbird for after school. If anyone has any tips for progressing in the park lmk. Also my rail game is absolutely atrocious.

Bruh that wasn’t even that bad. If anything it’ll become easier as u hit bigger jumps cuz you wont have to crank the rotation around so fast.

Agree. I am wuss and go on the smallest jumps I can find. That only exacerbates the problem, as the jump will be too small and I'll have to fight it around my hardest or get rekt on a 270. Then I'll be scared I can't do the damn 360 on a bigger jump, because I failed at the bunny hill going half speed.

In fact, carving into a 360 on a medium jump with appropriate speed is a lot easier than pencil'ing out a spin on flat with no speed whatsoever (as shown in fellow shredder's clip)

i was honestly expecting that 3 to be way worse lol. Seriously tho, congrats on learning 3s. it can be a hard trick to learn so give yourself props for that first. my humble advice:

Don't wind up with your arms. Not necessary for a three, especially considering that a lot of your power comes from lower body. A lot of people tend to focus on the spin so much that they forget to pop properly.

Keep your vision up. When you replay the clip you can see that your looking sideways before your skis have fully left the jump, and then when your head is at 180 you're looking back at the lip. Don't look back at the lip, instead try to focus on spotting the landing as soon as u can.

In summary, approach the jump with confidence, pop hard, spin while trying to spot the landing.

Dude, you are 17, and that 3 was pretty good for being your first. You will get there.

The key is to have fun. Every day on the snow makes you a better skier.

Simple ways to accelerate your progress:

- Take a few lessons with a freestyle coach.
- Trampoline training.
- Visualize: YouTube videos, copy someone in the park, ride with friends who are better than you, etc.

17 is a great age dude. Most males athletic primes aren't until their mid to late 20s you got lots of time left to progress. You'll be alright. Just keep skiing.

Yeah get lots of reps in, but also try it on different jumps, don't just small 1 park jump, try it on side hits and bumps as well. that way your aren't just mastering the takeoff on one jump and actually learning to feel the lip and time the rotation right. When I was learning 3s is found it helpful to find a roller then slide around to switch and then do a switch 1 over the roller as smoothly as possible.

this, i'd honestly rather do a 3 on a big jump than a small one. they just come right around, hardly even have to set it. people make 3s harder than they need to be by doing them on small jumps (understandable of course) cause they feel like they have to rush it plus that often makes people lean back. lean forward, aggressive athletic stance, push your shins into the tongues of your boots, flex your core. take control

also OP pick your feet/knees up! but most of all just keep riding and getting comfy with things, you're so young, you have nothing but improvement in your future dog

Hardest part is committing. First hit on a bigger jump is scary as fuck.

it's a waste of energy and will cause you to land backseat. Having your arms wide on the takeoff will do a lot more to get the spin around than just pulling your head around. You should be looking straight foreword til around 90º, especially if you find yourself landing backseat. Go watch how any pro does a 360, they're probably patient with bringing their head around.

Alright, here's my not-expert advice: Go to Woodward Park City for one whole day and try to learn as many new tricks as possible. They have a great progression setup, and only riding park will help with progression. Then, go back to Brighton and replicate the tricks there.

Do roller blades help that much? I've seen some roller blades for hella cheap on marketplaces near me and I've been tempted to cop some but Im scared I'm gonna get hella hurt practicing things on concrete.

Why would he waste money on a 4-months minimum subscription ($400+) to Woodward and then go to Brighton, when he could just only go to Brighton? They have a progression park too.

i started this summer and picked it up pretty fast, i can hit rails and ledges and stuff. falling on concrete kinda sucks but you learn how to do it, i wear wrist guards.

It was big for me. The blades I had have a spot for rails right in the center. So it really made sure you practiced stomping rails in the center. Also gives you bigger balls thinking of hitting cement rather than snow

your ahead of 90% of skiers already at 17, don't worry. youll be fine stay on the grind, fall a lot. I did my first three at 19 and got a job coaching at woodward this past summer at 21
