Ski Size

-JustDidIt-Ok yaya Ik this is standard and no I am not new to skiing I have own multiple pairs of skis BUT this is my first time I plan on getting a pair of actual nice park skis. I am 5'9" and I ride mostly park and jumps at that and I've been looking at the Icelantic Nomad 94s
There's a lot discussion on which skis are the right size and I'm kinda stuck here on what I should get. The Nomad 94s are sold out in the 162 size so the 171 should be the next size up and it's in the range for my "recommended ski size" 162-182 or something like that
But measured on me thats like to the top of my forehead
For park skis, especially for doing mostly jumps and spins wouldn't I want it to be under my nose?
Thanks for any advise, my previous skis I skied last year were at my chin and I did good so Im worried about buying ones so much bigger

162 is way too short brotha. I rode 171 park skis for a while and after ripping all mtn for the past few szns I've basically retired them in favor of 181s. im 5'10" and rip 181-191 depending on park, all mtn, or pow, and found 186 are my sweet spot in general. got 181 on3p jeffreys mounted 3 cm back as my daily drivers skiing in utah and find the shovels fold on me so wish i had 186 or so + a little more stiffness at 145-150 lbs but im an agressive skier. 176 for park could be good, 171 on absolute low end unless you're a beginner. where are u skiin at/do u have a quiver and whats ratio of pow/big mtn/all mtn/park? really depends on the ski and its stiffness as well + what you're optimizing for (butters, rails, jumps/big air, weight, etc.).

only reason i ever rip my 171 park skis is bc they are stiff af and have super short sidecut which is fun for rippin turns so long as im skiing centered. if you like to lean into your shovels and are 30%+ all mtn + 145-160 lbs I'd go for a 176-181 med stiff ski. if u just like butters and rails maybe shorter and softer. depends on what you're used to and if ur tryna progress on jumps or just have fun, not to mention where u ski. sure others will have different opinions but that's my take.

I was also looking at the Faction Studio 1s but either option I would be thinking of center mounting. I mostly ski piste/groomers because that's really all they have where I ski and I mostly do jumps so I'm looking for stiffer. center mounting tends to reduce the length of the ski so depends on weight/age/experience level and your style (do you lean into your shovels/tips and drive ur skis on groomers or just cruise centered) - all of these would be good for everyone to know to help you find the right ski for u bro. centered is good for rails, maybe look at -1 to -2 if you're mostly hitting jumps and ripping groomers.

Its more that Im just shocked I should be ridding skis that are at my hair line when I was "just" riding skis at my chin
I weigh 140lbs
ik everybody says big skis for those rails but I dont mess around with rails much so idk if that still applies

yee np. weight/age/experience level? most skis are build to be mounted at the center of their camber, so rec is usually ideal (which is why u don't see people mounting vishnus -1, -2, -3, and so on). so factor that into what you distill your final options down to. Moment makes sick skis btw. My deathwishes were my fav daily driver ski of all time w their triple camber, and I had some PBJs as well which were a little too long at 188 but also trip camb. they make a frankenski which i think is -1 or 2 and tends to sell out quick. pretty stiff so would consider those if thats what ur after and they absolutely rip turns.

tbh what i found best is buy a few pairs, sell the ones that you dont fuck w all that much, and go to stores and manually flex the skis too to find what works best for u + talk to the guys at the shop (they might let u rent for free). if ur friends w other skier homies who have boot sizes +-5-10 cm and you can test them by adjusting the bindings then thats ideal so u can sorta experiment. just make sure the forward pressure is decent so u dont land a jump and get fucked from ur bindings popping out or staying too tight haha. happy to help been in your position many times, but tbh i ski in utah and mostly all mtn + not much park so depends what your goals are. others here may have more targeted advice.

if u dont mess around w rails much larger skis would be my rec for the larger platform when landing. smaller skis are nice for lighter swing weight mostly ime (can make a big difference). u can realistically get new skis every year w a 200-300 dollar trade in value if u sell ur old ones so optimizing for the future is a mistake imo. optimize for the season. just dog/house sit or babysit if u dont have a job to make up for the cost.

Thanks, the hard part is where I live they don't have many skis to test and look at except for Rossi or Solomons...
I looked and the franken skis are already sold out~the Icelandic's I'm looking at are ya not meant to be center mounted. I'm leaning towards the Icelantics because Ive had 2 friends recomend them to me and the factions Im looking at the studio 1s are designed to be centered mounted which now thing idk if thats something I want.

So what would you classify as smaller skis for me? Are you saying the 171s would be considered smaller and be good for me?

180 +- like 4cm. Anything less is too short unless you weigh less than 100lb

nomads have some pretty good rocker to them. im also 5'9" and ive been using 181 nomad 105s (actually 111 underfoot) as a daily driver with plenty of time in the park. If youre looking at the 94s go with 181s, mount them center, and just figure them out the way you would with any new ski.

Once you hit that point where youre comfortable on them youll thank yourself for not buying a shorter ski youre just going to outgrow.
