Planning ski club trip HELP

I’m trying to plan a trip for my colleges ski club and I have no idea what I’m doing. We’re probably gonna go to Mt Snow or Stowe. There may be 20-30 people going on the trip and I have no idea where we’re gonna stay. I found some large airbnbs but I’m worried everyone’s gonna trash the place and I don’t wanna be on the hook for that. And i’m worried I’m not even considering some things regarding the trip

Anyone have experience with this?

make it so that you organize everything but you just give the links to everyone and they sign up for the airbnbs on their accounts so its on them if its bad.

i mean you guys are all adults just have everyone find their own place. I mean unless you are paying for the house/hotel with ski club funds there's no reason why people can't just figure it out themselves

My school's ski club does a big multi day trip every winter and we stay in hostels. we usually go to hills where the hostel is at the base of the hill so we don't have to find a way to and from the hill.

After years of experience with organizing these things, I can tell you that this is a losing game. You have the right intuition: people in groups are terrible. They will treat you like you are their travel agent.

I've done the AirBnB thing a few times and the problem is you are on the hook for everything: damages, cancellations, people not paying, etc.

My advice is to contact a hostel and ask them to hold a block of rooms. Then send around the link and ask people to book individually.

I run the ski club at my university and we do at least three multi day trips a year. I second the hostel recommendation as they can easily accommodate 25-40 college kids and they are generally cheaper. Because we use club funds we have to book as one group and then provide info for each attendee. Anytime we've had issues with people doing stupid shit, the hostel owners have been good about handling it and making sure you as the person booking aren't on the hook (we also have a good relationship with these hostels from past trips which helps).

Depending on your situation with the university/funds, the suggestion above would be ideal.

in case you don't know and might care: stowe is a much bigger sicker mountain than mt snow. might not be a primary concern for your group though and both will be super fun

Also reach out to the hills you're thinking of going to and see if they'll give your club a discount for lift tickets. doesn't always work but its worth a shot.

Yeah, I've had good luck doing this, if there's on-mountain lodging, you can sometimes get a hook-up for that. I'd avoid airbnb, just cause its complicated, and it sounds like there's gonna be a big risk of people trashing a place. Nobody wants to be a buzzkill, but if you're the organizer, you should make it very clear that you're in charge, and that there are behavioural expectations. People who trash shit gotta be held responsible for what they do.

So I'm actually the event coordinator of BSU ski club, we do this every year for our club trips, and it's definitely the highlight of the club. Everyone becomes really good friends and has fun hanging out together. I recommend having some extra club funds laying around incase you break something at the airBnB. Have people car pool it's cheaper. If you haven't already, contact the resorts for group discounts to save some money for everyone. Also we provide dinner and breakfast for the people on the trip, it's nothing fancy, but gets everyone fed.
