What are the most legendary backcountry jumps?

Yo guys! I'm trying to compile a list of the most legendary backcountry jump spots in the US and Canada, and I'd love to hear what you guys think deserves to be on that list.

Think spots like Chad's Gap in Utah, The Mt. Baker Road Gap in Washington, or the Trestle Step Down in Colorado. Feel free to include everything from well known gaps to more slept on jumps, but the richer the history of the spot the better.

This is what I've got on the list so far:

Pyramid Gap (Utah)
Rocker Gap (Utah)
Flagstaff Gap (Utah)
Leviathan Gap (Utah)
Mt. Baker Road Gap (Washington)

lots of wedge builds by the powerlines at stevens pass

my dream spot is near the SR 20 hairpin past mazama WA but that's in buttfuck and idk if anyone's built it before

A lot of the gullies (idk what to call them) at Mt Hood with all the step ups and quarter pipe type features

The ravine gap from this edit Sage dropped last year is pretty ridiculous:

If some local freeride animal doesn’t gap the eldora shelf road in the next few years then imma have to take matters into my own hands. Also this reminds me of the skier that died trying to gap the Berthoud pass road

Add perfect jump in tony grove and there are a few missing from the mosquito creek zone too. Also out of curiosity, how many have you checked off? The rocker gap might have been the hardest to get bc of the south facing landing and other thangs, either way, check chipping away at the list!!!

such a sick gap jump. and yeah henrik does a super dope rodeo 7 over it in Salute

that big ass booter that yushi saito, taisei yamamoto, and gen sasaki hit in hokkaido a few years back. Yushi tried quad on it a couple times without a helmet lmao

In the past I've hit pyramid, flagstaff, and rocker. Rocker was by far the most sus haha. Built it in the spring when we thought it was gonna snow but there was a refreeze and the snow never came so it ended up being pretty icey when we hit it. Clip is on my gram somewhere. Definitely want to go back to that one with some pow.

I've heard of Mary Ellen Gap but I don't think I've ever seen any pics or vids of it being hit. Do you know where I might be able to find some?

The last two shots in Brandon Beckers part from Teddy Bear Crisis are Mary Ellen.



It also reminded me there is both upper and lower Flagstaff Gaps too.

And if you watch Flying Circus from Wind Up Films (old Kris Ostness movies) there is a gap in the backcountry off 9990 at the Canyons that is 90-110 feet. It was only ever hit that one year.

There is also Tim Durtschi’s Benson gap that uses the same landing as Sarlacc but a higher, further takeoff.

Lastly, the Hurley Road Gap in Whistler.

I live in buttfuck, I know of people building kickers off the edge of the hairpin, mostly sled access. Once the pass opens in the spring there are still insane quantities of snow.

ye i rode from the east closure to rainy pass last year saw lots of potential. might try to sled west closure to east closure this season

how's the ski scene in methow valley? i know NCH and loup loup are out there but never met anyone in the backcountry that wasn't from out of town

Got a couple recs in the Jackson/Teton/Wydaho area:

1. Old Pass Road Gap, Teton Pass
-Old Pass Road is no longer a functioning vehicle road, but more of a hike/bike trail, not plowed in the winter. Super cool natural step down from a pillow kind of takeoff, over the road to a short but super steep pow landing, pretty easy access from the trailhead, been some great sessions in a lot of local edits but I think some heavy hitters like Bobby Brown and Henrik have hit it over the years

2. Teton Pass Highway:
- this one is less common bc WYDOT will def shut you down if they see you but i think it was a Brap-ski episode where Karl made a step-over somewhere around the Phillips parking lot and the Glory Gut runout

3. JHMR sidecountry:
- you need tram access to get to these but some INSANE natural drops with infinite landings off of Cody Peak (pucker face, pillow/spine features in between No Shadows & Four Shadows) and No Name Peak (UFO rock and 3-4 others idk the name of) that a lot of people have thrown fat dubs off recently. gonna also have to include Central Couloir on Cody Peak, a triple black fully blind rollover steep Couloir with a mandatory choke halfway through and a 40+ foot mandatory exit, Jim Ryan arguably had the GOAT run on it last year beating his slough out in just a few turns, but very few people have ever thrown a trick out the exit, maybe only Teton Brown on a year it had filled in nice.

4. Mosquito Creek - sled access zone 4 miles south of Wilson, WY off Fall Creek road. OG jump spot as seen in Travis Rice/Brain Farms “that’s it that’s all” and “Art of flight.” (T-Rice Tapping/breaking a big dead tree off a massive cheese wedge) Has been in tons of TGR and local edits since then, I think Bobby Brown and Quinn too maybe? and recently the STEPT crew has been shooting their sledneck/jump segs back there, I think most recently Henrik’s “SALUTE” segment starting around 19 min into the film.

5. Grand Targhee Sidecountry - I think you need sled access to get out, but there’s some insane cliffs and natty step up/over features in the canyons adjacent to Grand Targhee, picture Owen Leeper tossing like an 80 front flip backslap, I think the Line?? Team also snagged some big clips back there in a team edit a few years ago.

Crusty Jackson locals will hate on sharing the beta but I think these spots all deserve to be in the running for the most iconic BC zones in the lower 48s

lots of folks go up twisp river or chewuch. Loup Loup has a dedicated crowd. Up near harts pass I've heard of tamarack being a popular spot to tour. But in the lower valley, when we get storms unobstructed by the cascades from the south/east, pretty much everything becomes side country and its way too much fun

Watch as many old Level 1 , Poor Boyz and other ski movies as you can if you want to see a variety of backcountry jumps. The first 9 Level 1 movies are available free to watch on youtube and vimeo.

also, would be dope to see someone hit all these jumps and emulate the banger that made them famous. A “cover” of classics essentially.
