SenpaiGroups of woodland like creatures called mogul gremlins come out every night and build them
bennwithtwonsto do them properly, you measure and stake them with bamboo so skiers have to always avoid the same spot and push the snow up there. naturally forming moguls aren't usually great cause they're a bit all over the place and don't flow consistently.
SendyMcSendyfaceIn the fall, ski resorts drag a bunch of these things out of storage and cover em with snow.
SteezyYeeterthe mad river Glen moguls are almost perfect. I suspect the absence of snowboarders.
mattytruthis would be hella fun to sesh
ReturnToMonkeyThe way people make tight turns down a steep slope removes snow from the troughs and piles it into the bumps. As day/night cycles occur and more people ski them, it creates moguls. I believe that sometimes, mtn ops will do this to create them on purpose.
tall.skierrun a snow cat up hill and use the blade and tiller to lift weight off one side of the tracks and spin it, digs a little mound like spinning your tires on gravel. Move forward a little bit and do it again on the other side. Just kinda work your way up the hill while a crew shapes out the mounds. idk but I have a feeling that’s how it goes

gnarhuckis this photoshop? serious question
BradFiAusNzCoCaThey are made from Volkswagen Beetles. That’s why bigger resorts with more money have more and bigger moguls. They can afford it.
WristWinter Park was selling their moguls a few years back and some colleagues and I bought one and sent it to CU Boulder for analyses. Our initial testing showed high water content, but also unique chemical compositions that we have never seen before. Unfortunately, our research was interrupted when government officials came into the lab and shut us down. They confiscated our research citing "national security" concerns. I guess we'll never really know how moguls are made...
theabortionatorIt's called mogul seeding. You basically lay out the perfect grid patern with the machine and then ski them in. Some people prefer natural but they can be chaotic and sometimes kinda beat. The seeding provides a more uniform finish that works good especially for contest type stuff.
dizzydizzyThis is correct. On the east coast, they will usually blow snow overnight on top of the seeded moguls because after the cat sets them its basically a rubbled out mess. After the snow blows on them it turns into a smooth egg-crate mattress looking surface, and then you ski the smooth egg-crate in to create troughs
The day after mogul seeding when you ski in the egg crate are some of the best ski days of my youth
