Replying to A filmers ethical dilema
Just watched the new surface video drop. Sick clips as always but it got me thinking. Is it a pussy maneuver to fake analog film effects? (Not suggesting that surface fakes their analog clips) I shoot on digital pretty much all the time, but I know we all love that film grain look that makes your clips look like something out of an early Warren Miller. But now I am presented with the ethical dilema of editors integrity. I want all the film burns and the grain and that choppy framerate that gives that nostalgia and home video feel, but maybe it's not as "core" as the people that do that shit legit and in camera. On the other hand, shooting analog can be super expensive and trying to find a quality camera that shoots analog and still works seems to be a trivial effort. Or maybe it's not that deep and I shouldn't be losing sleep over it.
