What do you do with old, unusable gear?

What do you guys do with things like helmets, goggles, and gloves that are way too damaged for anyone to use again but you don't just want to throw them in the landfill?

Most of my gloves end up all ripped to shreds and no reason to keep them around so they end up in the bin. Other than that, Ive pretty much kept everything,lol. I have a few plastic totes in storage holding all my shit.

For most gear: try to get new stuff before my current kit is wrecked then sell it cheap or give it away (gotta give back) I'm lucky enough to be a position to do so
For skis: ride them until they break then hang them up as like taxidermy

Ik it sucks but most of it just has to go in the trash 😔 sad reality of consumer sporting goods.
I like to keep the bigger stuff as momentos - One of these days I'll have a man-cave and mount all the glorious detritus of cracked bike frames and delammed/snapped skis on the walls.

For skis and boards, make chairs, outside furniture for a firepit or something. Saw a dude on ig that uses old coats to make bags. All sorts of colors and look sick.

I will keep certain skis forever and when I'm 80 and have a house and a wall to hang them on, I'll put them in chronological order. I'll be able to look back at each one and remember the things I did with them until alzheimers gets me and I can't remember any more, but the topsheets will help

For outerwear/boots/goggs and shit like that I just give to the homies for free. Usually try to hook up the young kids first because they usually don’t have jobs. For skis/bindings, trash. I do keep an old pair of FT’s for parts tho. Saved my ass a bunch of times

for thrashed clothing and usable gear I have friends I give it to who will upcycle it into something else if its still usable. they've made some dope fanny packs and tote bags out of my old bibs and jackets.

i keep old mittens in good use, i have some hestra mittens that are torn up that i use for shaping and waxing rails. i try to get rid of worn out stuff, but a lot of it is stashed at my parent's place. two seasons ago i tried to get rid of some clothes, but my mother stopped me since it was sentimental value for her (me too tbh)

Donate it to a local organization that gets kids on the hill. They salvage bindings for brakes and use clapped skis to train kids to tune and mount in their rental shop
