FunnelAny updates? How’s recovery, pain, etc?
cool270outYes, very curious about an update here too. I think I need custom hockey skates
Hey I'm not sure why I didn't see this sooner.
Right foot was Jan 7
Left foot was March 18
So I'm about 6 months out on the right and 3.5 on the left. I was non weight bearing for 3 weeks and wearing a walking boot for 6. But I'm still not completely pain free in either foot. Walking up a steep incline is still uncomfortable as that requires a lot of dorsiflexion. My doctor said that's normal. He also said that total recovery time varies from patient to patient and it's difficult to give his patients precise timelines for recovery. The biggest factor that affects recovery time is whether or not they have to make incisions to the Achilles to reach the bone spur. I was lucky that he didn't have to touch my achilles. But the recovery has still been slower than I thought it would be. Thankfully, I was able to start mellow mtn biking at around 8 weeks. I started lifting in the gym last week. I still have to manage my inflammation with icing and knowing when I need to take a few days off.
If I compare it to ACL recovery, the ACL was more traumatic but you can feel yourself improving on a weekly basis. The haglunds was less traumatic but improvement over time has been more subtle.
I live near Mt Hood. I'm optimistically hoping to squeeze some turns in this summer late August. I'll update again when I go boot shopping this fall.
