Does anyone else feel like ski companies can upsell apparel just because it's ski related?
For me it's crazy like no way I am paying 40 bucks for a small logo on a tshirt because it's ski related when I could be buying merchandise from a local shop for like 10 bucks and supporting a local business. I can understand ski pants, ski jackets etc because it's expensive to make those things but I just don't understand these tshirts or hats that sell for around 40-50 bucks with a small ass logo from these massive brands.

I feel like I should be more specific, I’m taking about massive brands that make millions, even though some smaller brands also are guilty of it. But at least most of them support skiers.
In all seriousness, it’s pretty common in my area. Maybe more around 15 bucks at local businesses. The highest ive seen a shirt go for is $20-25 bucks or so.

Depends. A lot of the apparel/ski companies on here are small and I don’t have a problem spending $40 for something. Even some of the bigger brands on here aren’t that big and I don’t mind it.
There’s certain big brands I’ll spend more on (Patagonia, LL Bean). But then there’s brands that I really couldn’t care less about and would not pay an excess of money for.
As mentioned the size of many freeski oriented companies are small compared to real corporate businesses and simply can’t cut costs and need to mark up to continue making dope shit while also giving back to the community. Personally I have no problem when I have the money giving it to said small companies knowing where the money goes.
I don’t know man. There’s a lot going into that LINE t shirt or Armada fleece compared to generic stuff in big box stores.
From supporting the sponsored skiers to supporting the local shop (where all the staff are skiers) I don’t think the markup is that bad. You can also just wait until the end of the season and get it 50% off.
I’d rather pay 40 or whatever for a shirt from a company like arsenic or Vishnu knowing my money is going straight back into supporting actual skiing and not into some massive corporate ceos shareholders pockets

Price curves are inverted when your target demographic has more money ie has money to go skiing. Charge more and people would assume the product is better. You get the same thing when you add "marine" to a product, even if it's literally the same thing. Park skiers are in their own demographic but broad strokes, you have brands like Arcteryx charging absurd amounts of money for technical shells because their target demographic perceives that to mean it is higher quality.
I have a couple high end shells and a couple $40 shells and the high end shells are better but not by a factor of 10.

Do you like your $40 shell for skiing? I'm looking into getting a lighter shell or a windbreaker for spring/summer skiing.

Hate to break it to you but it not just ski companies, look at any spots apparel. If anything ski company apparel is on the lower side of prices similar to other action spots apparel. Look at basketball for example just the casual day to day apparel that isn’t active sports wear is also usually an entry price point of $40.

Honest buiness men get thier product around 40% less than list cost and re-sell. In arseincs case you have to account for labor (putting patches/screen print on product) and shipping costs. Not to mention sorcing and holding the products to put patches on, this type of business model is setup for you to pay list price if not more becuase of the logo. Its just how it works.
