Anyone else thinking about changing it up to look sharper and cleaner. Brakes really take away from the look of skis and poles look way better w/o baskets.

i heard that some og pro used to cut off the inner brakes so he could keep his skis even more glued i forget who it was tho

I mean if you're lucky someone downhill might stop the skis knowingly.

Its not like skis don't get lost with brakes as is. I almost lost my Stockli pow skis and they ended up way down the trail and into the woods the brakes didn't do a fucking thing. False sense of security IMO.

Yeah not having baskets is definitely going to make you ski better in powder.

Definitely have heard similar stories from people, same with breaks. I’m sure it depends on the resort and employees but I’m sure there is at least a few places that would tell you to kick rocks or get different equipment.

ive seen it happen. theyre within their rights to call you on it, but obviously it's not something that would always be noticed

idk why you'd want to get rid of them anyway though, they help you push.... the pole will just stick deep into the snow without them unless it's solid hardpack

yeah the no brakes idea has him pegged as a gaper, easy. anyone who's seen a brakeless ski go down the mtn knows that's a bad idea. those things can haul ASS even if the slope isn't very steep

With the no baskets you can pick up all the trash on the way down. Just wear an orange vest and you’re good to go.

Makes sense. Now that I think of it I did see them turn away that was trying to use two big sticks lol.

More so was just wondering for all the times I've accidentally ripped them off and was nervous they'd make me stop lapping.

My girlfriend's touring skis have no brakes (no idea why, they were cheap second hand) and they're a pain to even put on. She once lost one on a basically flat slope and it still took off. Luckily i was downhill from her and stopped it, otherwise she would have had a long, shitty walk

leash should be an acceptable substitute. always has been, and that's why blades usually come/came with leashes

I run a pair of 40s poles, they were used in WWII, (my great Unc was 10th mtn) one of the leather 5in baskets is gone sadly so I run a basket-less pole. Now I hit blunt grabs with what used to be used to find nazis in the mountains 😈

No, I used to ski without baskets on my poles, not by choice but because they both broke off one season and it took my lazy ass way too long to get them fixed. It sucks. When you're pushing along flats your poles sink all the way in and you lose your momentum. Even worse is when you pole-plant a turn and your pole goes deep into the snow and gets stuck, you're going fast and it feels like your arm is about to be ripped off when the strap catches you as you exit the turn. Use baskets.

my baskets ripped off my poles ions ago and unfortunately sick stickz went out of business so now i just have poles with a fat tip lol. been rockin that for years until i got some grass sticks last year.

as far as brakes go, pretty sure you need them for the applicable spacing and pressure for your boots so you’d probably eject more resulting in your own injury and send your ski torpedoing down the mountain like a jerry seeking missile. i am supportive of you doing this

No brakes are for touring and teles who run leashes. Pick one- either send a missle down at mach 10 that is gonna impale an 8 year old, crank your dins up to 18 and tear an ACL doing a crappy 180 that is actually a revert, or rep leases that look even stupider than brakes if they arent on tech bindings and are a guarenteed ski to your face if you fall.

I've been yelled at for it. My touring pole baskets never stayed on so I had to put a knob of electic tape on the bottom.

Holiday Valley, NY ski patrol pulled me out of a lift line and sent me to the ski shop to get a basket for my pole. It was either get a basket or gtfo according to them. At least the basket was free

I mean the upside of maiming a kid is that you are going to be able to find your ski at least and not have to buy a new pair right?
