First ever park skis

Yo, I'm looking into getting my first pair of park skis this year, I have experience in racing but have friends in who are into freestyle and I'm looking to try it out this season. I'm about 5'7 140 and my friend and I narrowed it down to 183 vishnu wides, a ski which I found used for around 350 with bindings but he said they might be 1. too long for me and 2. too soft for a beginner park skier. He also recommended icelantic nomad 95s in a 176, Surface snipers in a 180, and lastly a pair of ON3P Kartel 96's 181cm used with FKS' for 500 with shipping. Curious to hear your guys' thoughts, and also open to taking suggestions. Something to note is I'm trying to spend as little as possible since I don't wanna dig deep on my bank account

wides are quite soft, especially since you're coming from a racing background. Kartels might be better. Would these be a dedicated park ski or would you plan on riding them all over the mtn?

On3p Jeff hands down. I got a lot of seasons on my kartel 98 when they first came out and loved them. Build quality is above and beyond

his friend here, He's mainly looking for a one ski quiver and we were browsing around BST and found the wides, kartels, and also went on surface, armada and icelantic's websites for deals on last year's skis. He said he wanted something softer than his hard ass racing skis but I said Wide's might be rlly hard to learn like popping properly and also landing.

I think either Armada ARVs, or Volkl Revolts would serve you well. Especially since you have a racing background. They'd be more familiar, and you would most likely learn faster on a stiffer, more narrow ski than a super soft ski like a Vishnu Wide. See if you can try a soft ski like Wets or even a Line Blend before you buy it. That type of park ski isnt exactly a "First park ski". You won't regret or break the bank on ARVs or Revolts. They double as great all mountain skis too.

180 is WAYYY too big for you park skiing, I’m a lil over 6’1 and rock a 186 all mountain and 180 for the park. Get the nomads if you’re set on one of those options but honestly just get whatever is a cheap twin tip cuz they’ll be beat to shit pretty quick when you’re learning rails and just falling a lot

Poacher is a good option, reasonably stiff and hella durable. Fun ski overall that won't bend you over like the Vishnu.

For your first park skis I would honestly hunt for whatever you can get a deal on. You're going to destroy them as you learn how to properly hit features, slide rails, and just learn what you're doing in the park.

All brands are going to make something proper for this but I would be hunting sales and even craigs/facebook marketplace for whatever you can get your hands on for your first pair.

Ngl I didn’t start destroying skis until I got way better. U can’t even tell I was learning park by looking at my first pair.

For a first park ski I’d go as close to your height even maybe a bit shorter, also something a bit more stiff, maybe get surface skis in a 174? Pretty sure they have good close out deals

That’s dope but I feel like that’s kinda irregular at least for the people I know. A lot of the damage I’ve seen is from getting on rails wrong and just destroying the edges. Also just falling and having your skis bang together. But that’s just my experience so if this dude can keep his skis looking pretty fresh he can keep his park skis for years n years which is sick

dont listen, im 5’7 165ish and ride 178-186. if you raced youre prolly at least a decent skier, more ski more fun

I’d highly recommend the Line TW Pro. Really one of the best park skis on the market right now. Very light and nimble and flex is stiff enough to handle any jump but can also butter easily and great 90mm width for rails, makes swaps very easy.
