Armada Strangers mounting point

MAGGO_KINZNERMine are mounted at -6,5cm from the recommended line , its like +2.5 behind true center. Works well as a park ski (centered feel) and carvs like a dream for somebody who only ride center mount skis. I get enough flowd in powder. Switch carves feel also nice. What i heard in another thread is this mount also the same mount as mike hornbek use on his stranger. Hope i can help with ur decision.

johnblaze3.5 cm back from true center is the answer for any ski that goes forward and backward.

The factory recommended (-10 from dead center in a 180cm) seems to be in the center of the cambered section, which means that if you mount it forward, the camber would be further back behind your boot.

In your experience, how does it feel while riding to have most of it behind your boot?

Non_State_ActorOn a ski that directional I would go -5 or -6 from center at most. If you want to be more centered than that but a different ski?

TwigLots of the team ride -2 to -3cm from true. I've played around with two pairs, I liked -3 from true center best in the end. I should update the review actually.

TwigI tried recommended (-10cm from true?) and then +2', +7, +8 and true center over the years. I skied the review skis +2 then went all the way to +7 from rec. +2-2.5cm is way too far back to feel the difference. They still feel directional as hell there.

I also borrowed a pair mounted -2 with demos so i could mess around with the mount. I like -3cm from true (+7 from recommended) the best. As I said, most of the team are bumping them waay forward.

TwigPretty predictably to be honest. At close to recommended they feel pretty directional and I found the tail a little unstable, especially when buttering it felt too short. You can drive the tip more when carving but if you are used to center mounted skis, you probably don't ski like that anyway. I know I prefer a more centered stance.

When I bumped the mount forward I felt like the ski felt way more intuitive. -3cm was my favourite spot for basically everything except for float in pow, but I don't think the Stranger is a great pow ski anyway tbh, that square tail feels a bit like an anchor.

I think I may mount them at +5 from rec, so that I have the best of both worlds.

How do they ride at +5?

kalle.i think +5 is a sweet spot for that ski, for 180 it’s a bit short for me and the tail felt super short when i had them at +3. now it skis like a dream and i don’t mind the lenght, avtually really fun to rip on groomers, they turn so well. despite the twin shape i still think it as a dircetional ski cause the tip is so huge compared to the rest of the ski.
my background is park skier switch to all mountain/freeride/inbounds and it’s a sweet ski if you’re like that as well

I was wondering, how does it feel to wheelie/manual at +5? Is the tail still too short to hold for extended periods? Also, how's the switch riding?

kalle.manuals are easy but still not going over too easy. switch riding took a little adjusting cause normally my skis are about 2-3cm back from true center but with these i wanted to still have some nose also

MAGGO_KINZNERFeels pretty solid and is also nice for park riding. Takes a lil bit to try and get into with switch riding but feels like a park ski with funky tails . (Who hook when u too loose on em)
Wheelies are a blast you have a lot of support from the tails. With the camber you got a nice pop onto rails.
does not sink into pow and feels not wrong while carving. Feels same as the bdog but more stable at higher speeds.
Armada knows what they’re do with recommended but for me i cant mount em so far in the back because of park rat responsibilities.

Srama36How do they feel at +5cm for you? I'm mounted them on the recommended and they don't feel comfortable. After reading this thread I'm thinking about mounting them on +4cm or +3cm, because I still want them to be directional.

slashy2hi Twig, wanted to know if you ever got on the 172 or not ? it says in your review you thought the 180 were too big (i'm your height and weight ). i'm thinking about adding these to the quiver for fun days. i do ski the 180cm declivity 102ti's as a daily driver and find those perfectly sized for me (my pow ski's are 185 mostly). so wondering what size to get

slashy2got 7 days in spring conditions on the strangers. really an awesome ski and top end is much higher than I expected. i'm a directional skier enjoying small tricks and these things rip . mounted +5
