XC is hard core. imagine going out on the mountain skiing in your tennis shoes. I live in a hilly neighborhood and the classic set up I have is so sketchy. Last time it snowed at my house I went out on a full alpine touring because I was scared to XC. mad respect to the people I see on XC gear skiing around at Mt. Hood

Heels are screwed down though. Need to free them like the Nordic X race where they flip at the finish.

My sister doing pediatric nursing housecalls on XC skis in the Northeast Kingdom is still the most core thing anyone I know has done.

Navigating a curving 20degree slope on 40mm sticks with no edges in soft boots, is not a dissimilar feeling to straightlining chutes. There's a reason even the olympic XC guys look goofy going downhill

XC skating is an awesome workout: super intense and meditative at the same time. The feeling of gliding is amazing.

It is a great way to spend a free hour while the mountain is overrun by tourists.
