Are my pivot 18s okay to reuse

I found skis at goodwill with black pivot 18s and was wondering if I should replace any parts because they are very beat and I’ve never owned a pair of you have any tips or intel it would be much appreciated

Give them a good clean, a tooth brush can be handy to get the debris out. Maybe grease them

Inspect the metal rings on the heel pieces for stress or cracks. It's definitely a good idea to take the heels apart and grease the adjustment screws as well so they don't rust together. You could also take them to a shop and ask for their opinion if you were concerned about it.

SchoessInspect the metal rings on the heel pieces for stress or cracks. It's definitely a good idea to take the heels apart and grease the adjustment screws as well so they don't rust together. You could also take them to a shop and ask for their opinion if you were concerned about it.






I noticed that in both of the heel parts there are cracks in the same spot is this something I can replace or will the bindings still work just fine

Those are not critical to holding your foot in the binding with cracks in them. I'm referring to the outer metal ring that rotates when you rotate the heel piece. The binding will rip apart if That's cracked. That inner part helps plant your heel and the brake when you're in the binding. So if it's cracked, your foot will still stay in there

Idk man I don't want to tell you yes or no and have you get hurt. Have a shop tech that looks ta these every single day tell you yes or no. They shouldn't charge you to tell you if they're safe or not

No not normal. You can typically spin then all the way around without any stop. Either there is major corrosion under there, a bunch of debris binding it up or they could be shot. As mentioned you really should take them to a shop and have them inspected if you don’t feel comfortable taking them apart and cleaning/grease.

That is nice to know. Do you know if there is somewhere I can find a routine maintenance guide for pivots on NS or elsewhere?

Mind if I ask what you paid? Cause poachers with p18s is an insane thrift find.

Just from a visual standpoint I wouldn't call those very beat. Sounds like you have some dirt under the turntable which is making it hard to turn, just rinse them off and spin them around until you get everything out from under it. The cracked half moon will need to be replaced before a shop will mount them again, slopestyle.com sells them. As schoess said check the metal ring on the baseplate for any cracks, if you see any youll want to buy new brakes. Also please be careful fucking with them, if you put your finger in the black trapezoid support post thing and engage the heel you could break your finger. Refer to this thread for examples
