honestly I only got my EMT to go Patrol. I've only done 2 seasons but spent time as an ER Tech in Salt Lake. I love helping people and stuff like that, and the adrenaline rush of going on a call is second to none, but it does take a major fuckin toll on you sometimes. There were so many times I was like "Oh shit well this is happening".

Also fuck being an EMT in a hospital. All you do is clean-up dead bodies and clean shit off of old people.

My favorite story from working at an ER was being in the psych ward. This one dude who was like 300lbs showed-up in the middle of a deep meth binge and was super schizophrenic. He wanted us to refer to him as "The General" because he claimed to be an actual 5-star General from the Army and that "The Secretary of Defense is on their way to come pick me up so don't be surprised if the Army shows up." He also kept telling us that his Wife was also on their way to come get him.

Well, upon deeper research, we all found out that him and his wife made a suicide pact and that his wife committed suicide and he didn't for some reason. It was super fucked-up.

Unfortunately there's a lot of not fun stories it seems.

I think the people you meet along the way early on is becoming my most favorite part so far I've worked with firefighters, fire medics, fire chiefs, nurses, MD's, combat vets, and others. All bring so much to the table and the learning aspect of it is great. Don't let the gnarly calls and bad shit scare you. It does take a toll on you, but its a big family at the end of the day.

this just made me so excited to become one. I'm just finishing up my junior year in high school, and I don't have the greatest grades ever. doing this will hopefully open up some opportunities for me. the midlife goal is to work in the ski industry out west in like Montana or sum. I don't plan on making a career from being an EMT, but I do hope to make some connections in the industry that could help me make a living out west doing what I love.
