I just bought 186cm keys and I’m wondering if I should have gotten 180cm. I’m 6’0 135 so 186cm will be a few inches taller than me and 180cm will be close to my height but a little bit shorter. Not sure there’s anything I can do about it now tho.
186 is perfect. I’m the same height as you and rode 186 Jefferys this year which was a perfect fit tbh. I also had 180 keys last year which would’ve been way too short now, the keys runs a bit shorter too so you’re good bro

you can't rely on the 'old' ideas about sizing. when skis went from being 200cm+ and totally straight to actually having sidecut, the recommended lengths came way down. the problem was that twin tips hadn't been developed yet and once they were, the industry just started using the same ideas about sizing for twin tips as for older 'parabolic' skis.
in truth, we mount out skis way farther forward (often dead center), so you can go significantly longer without increasing the length of the front of the ski. you gain almost all of the added length in the tail alone. for example, i am 5'6" on a good day and ski 175-194 depending on application. at 6' you will be totally fine in a mid 180 length ski.
you're like 183cm so you're actually right between the two sizes and only a few cm off either way. you are light which affects this but are you a dece skier? if so you're gonna be good. if you're a beginner/not great you might want to switch for the 180 if you can

I’m definitely not great but not beginner. I like to butter and jib mostly and the best I’ve done on a jib is switch on f2 off. I haven’t learned to swap yet. I can’t 360 consistently either. Would you still consider that beginner idk it might depend on the region. I’m from the Midwest and I’m like middle of the pack in skill at my home mountain for reference.

are you comfortable on your skis, like you're a completely competent skier? if so i think you're good. keys are the stiffer of the vishnus but i imagine they're still not very stiff

Yeah I’m really comfortable I think. I have been riding 166 honey badgers since like 2020 and I didn’t mind them. It’s taken me a while to decide to get new skis. Those are rly short on me for sure but I’m so used to them it hasn’t been a bother.

okay then it'll feel like a big jump but that's mostly cause you're used to skis that are quite small for you. you'll be going from skis that are too small to skis that are a tiny bit big for you so it's gonna take some getting used to
if you can get the 180s instead that'd be a better fit for you but you will be fine on the 186s. "around head height, plus or minus some CMs based on skill, weight, terrain you ski, style, preference, etc" is basically the idea. for instance my park/resort skis are a little taller than me but i know i want/like the feel of that from experience
you're light for your height which is a factor that people overlook often
I would have gone 180cm since that would be just barely under your height, but since you already bought the 186 just use it until they’re done and next ski you get I’d downsize. For park only skis that is.

you get use to it quick its mostly an illusion only 3cm difference on tip and tail. plus a rocker ski doesn't have that much contact on the snow, you will gain more stability and it also depends how they measure the ski because sometimes the curve is included which sits them a little shorter than the length it self. i've never really understood how some of the brands measure their skis when its not true height, it will change through the brands and even same brand but different ski models heights can change from the shape haha if that makes any sense
