Well, I went back 12 pages and couldn't find any of the old ones, so here's a new one.

I really just wanted to settle an argument I had. When going through the twisties...do any of y'all drag rear brake THROUGH a turn? Not into the turn, but through it. I think it's dumb. I guess it could maybe have a track application but I don't see using it on public roads

Anyways, summer is coming. What is everyone riding? Controversial opinions? New gear? Pictures?

i miss my bike everyday. Had a klx250 but i would upgrade at this point. Right now Im finishing up my engine harness rebuild on my 92 si eg hatch k24/k20 all motor build. Excited to track it!

PS do you need any gear cuz i have 2 helmets and 2 pairs of gloves sitting in my room.

I will be getting our bikes out of storage this coming weekend. I am SO looking forward to swinging my leg over my motorcycle and twisting the throttle, its been way too damn long.

I’ve always trail braked. My dad taught me from day one to use the rear brake a lot. Can help a lot with bringing the rear end around and making the bike rotate faster.

I don’t but only because I don’t have enough track experience you could say but trail braking is definitely a thing, I only have enough experience to brake hard before the turn and roll on throttle through the turn. Maybe mountain biking will make me better at practicing it though—canyon riding is not a time I feel like fucking around with experimenting with new techniques. finally fully restoring my R6 with my adult money, tempting to track it and pick up a ZX10r to “daily” 200 miles/year… Although my injuries are showing my age, just funny how our motorcycle group died off for about 7 years now it feels like we’re all getting back into it on midlife crisis mode

Could be? What do you have as far as helmets go?

Hell yeah brother. Just had a great ride today. Literally only 20 minutes but perfect weather, getting more adjusted and confident on this bike, it was great

Yeah that's about what I figured. Probably some track applications but I feel like at lower speeds any amount of trail braking to load up the rear is going to be too much when you're just trying to give it maintenance throttle.

I'm just focused on nailing the basics, especially considering how...peppy the sv can be at low speeds.

Not to brag, but I actually surprised myself with how small my chicken strips were...which probably means I need to dial things back a little. Didn't even feel like I was getting that far over. The roads are still pretty dirty after winter and it's been so fucking windy. 35-40 mph crosswind gusts off the lake are fucking spooky when you are going through a turn.

I'm having a fucking blast though

I have a white icon airflite size medium (which honestly fits like small); is basically brand new (someone gave it to me), i also have a fly trekker in size small in matte black (have a clear and dark visor for this helmet). Both just sitting in their bag not being used for the past year.

Don't own one anymore but this is from last year. I miss having bikes. Harder when you move as much as I do though. Might get a dirtbike again to brapp the hills

Yup it’s a quirky little bike just like the 650. I had an 04 sv650s and was looking for a next bike. They share a bunch of parts and I already knew how to work on it so I figured it would be a nice upgrade. People always ask what kind of bike I have, and then they give me a blank stare when I tell them. Super fun street bike!

What a bad end to a good day.

Beautiful weather, got a bunch of shit done and went for a ride. Got gas and FORTUNATELY was just driving by my house when my chain snapped. Okay no big deal, then I noticed the clutch was limp.

Turns out the chain went clean through the clutch push rod. I'm holding out hope though, because the external rod broke with about an inch still sitting outside of the seal, the seal isn't leaking and it doesn't look to be bent...so hopefully I'll only need an external rod and seal (plus sprockets and chain). Should be something I can do myself, fingers crossed.

@Not_Good Ever break a push rod on your 04?

Yikes no I’ve never. Any warning that the chain was going to blow? That’s terrifying. Chain and sprockets was pretty simple, but you’ll need a rivet press if you don’t have one.

Check out the svrider forums if you haven’t already, seems like they have an archived thread for pretty much any issue imaginable.

Not particularly. Broke/failed at the master and like a dummy I never checked to see if it was a riveted or clipped master but given where it broke, I'm guessing it was a clip. Chain was on the older end but didn't have any seized links and wasn't dry.

On a positive note, there doesn't seem to be much content on replacing the LH push rod so that may be a good first video for the channel. The forums are great but also kinda all over the place. I've got my diagrams and working mechanical knowledge so I'm hoping that that's enough.

New rod should be here in a couple days! Sucks to miss out on some baller weather but it is what it is.

Love that. Here’s my second attempt. Tried in 1st gear right before this. This was 2nd. I also needed new tires so figured I should send it.

I managed to break my tire valve stem. Had to pull the wheel and bring it to a shop. Lotta work to replace a $5 part. Cleaned/lubed/adjusted the chain and now I’m paranoid it’s going to randomly break haha. Good luck with the fix! Plenty of summer left

Using your rear brake in corners should only be used on track. GP riders used the back brake through corners to maintain stability due to the reduction of wheelbase from braking into corners. Dragging the rear brake through corners extends the swingarm allowing the wheel base to be more normal. I wouldn't recommend applying this logic on the streets due to the unknown tarmac conditions and tires not being at the correct temperature. Anywho here's my bike

Nah you just upgrade your oil pump then you're golden. They make one that's build for wheelies that keeps circulating your oil. It makes them a lot easier on the grom too because you never lose power after being at 12 for a while. Definitely worth it if you are trying to put on for your city.
