Jemsis it even possible to be an industry plant?
i believe the her criticism comes from choosing to compete for china in the olympics when she’s an american citizen, used american facilities, etc. i don’t think she’s “cool” but industry plant doesn’t make any sense, you can’t buy skills.

Need a ton of money for coaching, relocation to somewhere with good facilities, costs of accessing facilities, costs of travelling for year-round training, cost of gear, etc, etc, etc. Becoming an Olympic athlete in a sport like skiing is not for the poor.
No idea what industry plant means though. That makes no sense.

hank.skiWeird take, but yeah, Eileen Gu sort of is an industry plant...just not in the ski industry. Her involvement with the fashion industry is more or less a result of her being an amazing skier who happens to fit the criteria that a lot of modeling agencies are looking for. So rather than making it "from the bottom" as a model, she has been able to leverage her skiing skills to get her into the industry based on notoriety elsewhere. I don't know Eileen and I have no idea how hard she worked to do runways/how passionate she is about that, but I would bet that at some point in time, her agency connections in snowsports opened the door to the modeling industry for her in a significant way.
I do want to stress that I don't think this detracts from Eileen in any way. She's an unreal skier, and she's also a really talented model. Everyone I know who has ever ridden with her has positive things to say, and I think it's totally appropriate for talented skiers to monetize their identity in lateral ways to snowsports since the ski and board industry values their professional athletes less than pretty much any other sport.

She's the type of skier to get police permission to hit a street spot.

hank.skiYou obviously didn't read my take then because I said that she's fucking rad and I know from the testimony of people close to her that she works her ass off to be as good as she is. Sorta sounds like you're just hate obsessing over what she posts on the gram buddy, nobody gets as good as she is without passion and dedication. She's the type of skier to allocate millions of dollars of non-endemic value toward our athletes in our industry just off of her reputation, and she doesn't seem to be a street skier, so why bother with weird hypotheticals.

percsi dont think you realize how real Chinas attacks on the united states are DAILY. theres a reason why the vast majority of all our taxes go to military. Look i dont like sounding like that guy but its completely normal and important to care about politics like that as an informed citizen.

SlushSeasonMost of our taxes don't go to the military. Entitlements are by far the largest chuck. But yeah china is the real deal. My job wouldn't need to exist if it weren't for Chinese aggression
