I got my cast freetour 1.0s about a year ago bc pivots r sick and I am wanted the 1 ski quiver vibe while still being able to get some tours in.
I have been skiing in bounds a lot more than touring this season with them and still pretty good buuttt...
the toepieces keep falling out every time I hit my tails on any hard surface, when I don't have my boots clicked in.
I reached out to cast about it once earlier this year, and they sent me new locks which have worked for like 3 months now but this past weekend the problem came back.
I haven't had any scary releases since this issue resurfaced but just wanted to ask if anyone else has had this issue and ask when I should get worried?

Nah, you good. If it's freaking you out I could machine metal tabs for you. The plastic stud things are probably wearing out.
Interesting, I've never seen this happen but I assume it has to do with wear on posts? I wonder if taking the toe piece and posts completely off and re-mounting them in the same holes changes anything? Curious to hear what others think, Do you mind posting some photos so we can have a gander?
these are the photos of the original situation (addressed by cast w/ new locks in jan. 2024). The new situation is almost identical, I just don't have a photo of it rn

Word! are you talking about the plastic buttons for sliding the binding on and off? Interesting that the freetour 2.0 seems to do away with all of this button lock stuff and it seems a lot more condensed.
seems like it doesn’t really matter given they aren’t loose while your boots are clicked in. only issue i can think of is possibly losing the toe piece in a crash if the ski pops off.
It’s actually not. The main issue on cast toe pieces with incorrext fitment wobbles or releases are the little contact tabs. The little metal taps that put pressure onto the post usually aren’t set correctly or they’ve been bent and don’t provide enough pressure to keep tight retention. Its the most common issue with cast other than incorrectly mounted posts that are not aligned from the get go.
see the little metal tabs in front of the springs. Those typically need to be adjusted. Releasing toe is almost always attributed to this issue.
Check your post and tab alignment. You may need to bend them to create more static pressure.

Word; so here's s what cast's final advice; kinda seems like I bent the towers and fucked up the shims because of that.
For the Freetour to work properly and allow the toes to change easily is dependent on the mount. The 4 screw towers all need to be perfectly up and down and side to side to allow the toes to stay locked and change easily. To me it appears one of your toe shims is not sitting flush to the ski (see attached photo).
1. Is this the ski that is hard to put the toe on?
2. Is this the ski the toe is not staying locked to?
This is what I think can be causing the problems you are experiencing. We will need to fix that/adjust the mount to get this working properly. I would recommend asking your local ski technician for help with this.
If the mount is off and the toe is struggling to click on, I would recommend the following directions below...
1. Unscrew the towers/toe screws all the way out/off.
2. Check to make sure that the screw holes have not volcanoed and preventing the toe shim from sitting flush. If there are volcanoes you can remove them with a razor or rasp.
3. Reapply wood glue to the holes
4. Screw the standoffs screws back into the ski leaving them very, very loose.
5. Click the alpine toe on while the screws are very loose.
6. Snug the screws down while the Alpine toe is on. (The alpine toe helps align the towers straight).
7. Test the alpine toes to make sure it now stays locked on. Then test other Alpine toe and tech toes to make sure they are still working properly.
Keep me in the loop on this as we do want everything to work for you.

Looks like your metal locking tabs are worn on the corners. These are supposed to grab the little bump on the plate, but there's nothing to grab onto anymore
