Ribs protection

I am an oldtimer that has started skiing park in the last couple of years. I am still slpping on rails and when I can't get out of them I always hit the ribs - on the side or on the front (intercostal area). Just had my second bruised rib in two years and decided to look for some protectors. But I am struggling to find a suitable model.

What I've tried:

- Amplifi reactor wasitcoat - very comfortable, but the padding for the ribs is super thin and only covers on the sides.
- Alpina proshield vest - also with very little padding on the sides

- Icetools evo shield - this has plenty of padding everywhere... which is actually the problem as it's quite uncomfortable, I can't imagine skiing park in it

Models I've seen online but couldnt find locally to try

- Dainese flexagon waistcoat - similar to Amplifi but seems to cover a bit more area extending into the front?

- Komperdell ballistic flexfit - this offers full padding everywhere,so I'm thinking it will be uncomfortable like the Icetools model?

Anyone has any recommendations?

I was also thinking of getting the Amplifi i.e. and then buy some foam padding and attach it myself? Would that work?

P.S. located in Europe so niche US brands would probably not be available

so everyone here has ribs made of steel and no one uses any type of ribs protection? :) or having a broken rib now and then is core so I should not try to escape from it? :)

honestly I havent heard this issue before the only pads I wear are hip pads. I would say if you progress a bit you wont have to worry about this

the volcom vest thing kinda wraps around the rib area from what i remember

Are the brands you mentioned Motocross brands? There should be a lot of options by Alpinestars and those type of companies.

That's a vest for karting but looks like it has good ribcage coverage.

I'm just getting over a ribcage injury though it wasn't from skiing, super limiting though, everything hurt a couple weeks ago especially sleeping. I only wear crash shorts while skiing.

Dlonettihonestly I havent heard this issue before the only pads I wear are hip pads. I would say if you progress a bit you wont have to worry about this

well if you slip on a rail and you can't quickly make it out left or right, you will either hit your hips, ribs or shoulder. I hit my hips more often, but it's usually just a bruise that goes away quickly, but the two times I've hit my ribs it was way more painful and basically prevented me from skiing park for a few weeks.

the Iguchi? it does seem so, but it's a backcountry thing, doesn't seem fit for the park

no, they are skiing/mtb protectors. but maybe not popular in the us. The moto/karting things have chest armour , shoulder armour etc, they are not really skiable. I know some people buy them and remove most of them but if I have to customise I think I will rather go the other way - buy a backcoat vest and add foam in some areas.

the first one I've tried in person - the coverage is tiny and wouldnt help at all. The second one looks better, but I cannot find it locally to verify. Hoped someone here owns one, as it's one of the more expensive ones?

I’ve never hit my ribs too hard and felt the need for padding, but I do wear a back protector and hip pads everyday and like them a lot
