snowpigjust read some article the other day, some guy researching helmets for decades. So basically a helmet is useful that it prevents a concussion in minor falls where you hit an object with something like up to 20 mph. Anything bigger than this and the helmet is useless, so whatever is going to kill you will kill you with or without helmets. This is why mass helmets usage didn't decrease deaths, it only decreased minor trauma like concussions. So the insight here is - if you are riding X Games-style a helmet wouldn't help. If you are a regular folk riding the resort a helmet could definitely help you avoid some trauma

Farmville420I only wear one because missing ski days due to the most preventable concussions imaginable is the worst feeling. I have gotten concussed twice by hitting the back of my head with my skis (I ride mega low dins so my skis eject constantly). If I had been wearing a helmet I would have at least 10 more ski days in my life which isn't a lot but knowing that it was 100% preventable makes it enough for me to care.
Also mips works wonders. It didnt exist when i was growing up so a lot of people didnt really wear helmets because they only prevented skull fractures which are insanely unlikely with or without a helmet. I will link the article if any of you for whatever reason think otherwise, but in summary mips mitigates 60ish % of potential TBIs. I don't think people are dumb for not wearing one, but with mips tech you are seriously missing out! I can kinda confirm how effective it is, I smack head kinda frequently and haven't gotten anywhere close to a concussion. Anecdotal obviously but so far mips has been working for me and my friends that use it.
BradFiAusNzCoCaHow do your low dins translate out of the park? Any issues?
OP - many people do it for style factor and because they think “it looks cool”.
Non_State_ActorLink the article?
Concussion is not minor trauma when taken cumulatively.

officechairAdding to this, I ride 7 at 150 lbs on attacks, strives, and pivots. I don’t do park or cliffs, but a ton of moguls and carving. Never had an issue except my one weird eject on a traverse today.

PartyBullshiitI really can’t understand this hot take.
you have 1 brain. You can’t replace it. You can’t repair it. Multiple concussions and impacts cause severe trauma to the brain.
go to a vfw and talk to some veterans and see what kind of issues their dealing with from multiple traumatic brain injuries.
