jwvMy second pair of Big Horn 106s just blew up on me - I had the older softer ones and the newer 21/22 stiffer ones (purple top sheets). I felt really similarly about them, just the perfect combo of charge, slashy/slarvy, not punishing, and amazing in the air. I also ride Black Ops 118 as a pow ski and like them for many of the same reasons, but sometimes end up pushing them too hard and folding the fronts in chop/hardpack. Very bummed about Sego going under, I have not ridden as many skis as you but the Big Horns have definitely been my favorite skis that I've been on.
I tried Woodsman 108s, but found them to be much more planted, much less pivoty, more punishing, and less alive at slower speeds than I prefer. They seem to require a much more forward/less centered stance than I'm used to on the Big Horns, it didn't take much to really feel like you were "driving" the Big Horns. So, I'm back to the drawing board, this time looking for as close of a replacement to the Big Horn as possible. @ShredtheGnarSlay I'm wondering what ski you ended up getting to replace yours? You mind sharing your spreadsheet?
I've been mostly considering a Jeffrey 108 or an MFree 108 (192cm, mounted +3 for recc). Jeffs seem to be the consensus closest comparison to the BH, but I am a little nervous from my experience the Woodsman - can anyone comment on how similar these skis feel? The MFrees also seem like a close comparison to BHs in the loose/pivoty/surfy department, but I feel a little weird mounting a directional ski so far forward and am nervous about fighting the sidecut and making the ski feel weird. Also concerned that it may have the "directional" tendencies that prevented me from getting along with the Woodsman. Anyone have any experience with both the MFree & Big Horn and able to make a comparison?
Hey mate. I feel you on the Big Horn. I think it was a genuinely awesome ski that didn't get the hype it warranted tbh. Good to know about your experience with the Woodsman, that was my concern when considering it.
So I picked up a pair of Wildcat 108s in 184cm and I do not like them much at all, which I was surprised by. The TLDR is that I think they are too light and too stiff for how I like to ride, so they offer less suspension, feel twitchy and harsh to me, and can't be pushed in the same range of conditions as I could the BH. They are good when the snow is soft but still prefer the BH there too. I thought stiff would be better, but for me it just feels like they don't absorb stuff as well.
I wrote about this in the Praxis thread on TGR, as upon more research, I wanted to know more about the Praxis MVP 108 as it has very similar specs to the BG. For what it is worth, another skier there had a very similar experience to me with Wildcat 108s and likes the MVP 108 much more for the qualities I am looking for:

I feel more comfortable taking a punt on the Praxis than Jeffries (which I was also considering) as the Jeffrey has similar weight and stiffness specs to the Wildcat 108, which I think were two key factors in me not getting on with it too well.
So all that said, I am likely to pull the trigger on some Praxis MVP 108s. However, I probs won't have them on snow for a good few weeks so won't be able to report back for a while.
Here is the spreadsheet I made. Note that Blister doesn't have flex numbers for the newer MVPs, but speaking to the manufacturer and people on TGR, I think they are a little softer than the Wildcats, and are defs a good deal heavier.
