Vish-shoeSo after playing around with the website a bit this is what I found
The ski will come in 170 and 180, the 170 will be 104 underfoot with a 14m radius and the 180 will be 106 underfoot with a 15m radius.
There is a list of “users” which appear to be the team riders. The list is mostly the athletes that are already on the new Salomon ski.
midwestcoastHilarious that the FIS rulebook is in the trash.
There've been whispers that a revamped free ski lineup was on the horizon. I've noticed some people on some fun looking midfat prototype last season. Been interested ever since...
tdolloIn reality companies like Salomon or Rossi won’t sell enough park skis to make it a sensible business decision. QST line has been selling really well so Salomon has a bit of freedom to do cool skis like the Depart 1.0
Vish-shoeSo does that mean it’s a one-off?
tdolloNah, theres projects down the line. Really sick what theyve done with Depart; rider designed ski and graphics
Vish-shoeBit of an odd question, but are they going to be true center recommended, or something else. Also, will these have 2.5mm edges?

hi_vis360I think if Salomon really leaned into park/street skiing they could absolutely become a dominant brand in the scene and probably sell a shitload of park skis. Not only do they have an endless wellspring of clout because they made the 1080, being absent from the scene for so many years makes anything new they do feel so fresh. It’s like they have both new brand and old brand clout.
Voyage86to be honestly I don’t think they would sell well. Their reputation as a dad brand lame ski company is way to prominent in the younger generation that wasn’t even alive back when the 1080 came out. i really can’t see your average 15 year old park rat grabbing a pair of solomons over their beloved line blends or some shit. and let’s be real the main consumer of freestyle skis is in that 12-22 category. i think the last 1080 ran in 2008 and a 22 year old would have been 4 so any old clout salmon has is with you guys (being older people).

a_pla5tic_bagIt's so weird to have seen salomon at max hype during the Dumont days, I really wanted 2008 thrusters, and then see them basically fuck off from the park scene, and then now they're back with some new zoomer aesthetics.

BLandzSalomon coming back into freeskiing could be massive. Huge potential there

Trifeswith size choices like 170 180 i'm not really seeing it.
a wide ski with rocker already feels short, and then only having 170 or 180 makes the ski feel like a 160 (for 170) and 170 for (180)
kinda baffled tbh
but am hyped for sämi to have his own ski project finally realized. he's been wanting to do that for ever.

SlowbroAre sizes around 180 not the best selling ones? People always talk about longer skis but I feel like everyone I see in the park is on 175s

tdolloidea is to add more sizes in the future. This is just an initial launch. QST Blank will now come into sizes down to 170cm, at the expense of getting rid of the 194cm. 186cm will be the longest Blank
ferrarizoomAnybody know what happened to the more park-oriented-looking, twin-tip prototypes? I'm a fan of the project as such but the ski looks a lot like their qst skis just with a pointy nose..

tdolloComp guys had been using the NFX with a generic graphic on them, and the depart went thru multiple prototype builds until they landed on the current shape
EvancantspinLooks like it dropped
