BradFiAusNzCoCaA Basin has been confused about their brand for awhile. It’s like they want to be a destination resort but they don’t even have a village.
Makes sense now that they were putting money in to attract a buyer.
PartyBullshiitIs this the little resort right off of i70?
katrinaYou might be thinking of Loveland, that's the one above the tunnel. Abasin is just off of Loveland pass, the little road you can take to bypass the tunnel that drops you out by Keystone.
nCrowNot sure if much will change, but I just hope weekend parking reservations start next year. Loveland pass traffic has been a shitshow weekend mornings this season
katrinaYea Alterra owns Deer Valley too and they have stayed pretty true to their original vibe.
And yep, parking needs improvement. At both resorts lol.
partyandBSincoming deer valley rant:
alterra is adding like 16 lifts and a new base area to deer valley. i was doing an estimate in my head (very official) and i think they are investing at least $500 million into it. honestly, deer valley pisses me the fuck off. the exclusiveness of the rich, ski only, mid as fuck terrain. all of it. also, how hypocritical is it for a company to have an inclusion initiative and then invest that insane amount in the least inclusive resort there is lmao. more like a delusion initiative.
BradFiAusNzCoCaBut wasn’t it not actually DV?
I thought it was development for Mayflower and the developer ran out of funding so they decided to roll up under DV.

nCrowCorrect, it was supposed to be a separate resort

katrinaMy point being is that deer valley was always like this. Alterra buying it didn't really change it, for better or worse.
Hopefully they keep the great things that make Abay what it is and don't flood it with iKon people from Denver.

mikemThe money injection to DV is so they can sell ski-in-out real estate. Also the culture was pretty easy to preserve at DV, as it's for rich tourists and doesn't actually have any solid ski culture.
Abasin on the other hand, I'm afraid for. Never been but seemed to be a place that had some culture, and Altera is not known for being a friend of terrain parks, shovel built jumps, or employee satisfaction.

katrinaDang, they've made so many improvements the last few years. Been a proud passholder the past 5 years. Guess that has come to an end.

Farmville420Pretty much every major alterra mountain has a Woodward, they don't let you build jumps tho I'm p sure
midwestcoastYou guys do realize ABay has been owned by a massive corporation for like 20 years, right? I doubt much changes. Compared to VR, I think Alterra does a better job letting their properties stay true to themselves....

Voyage86what could they do that would make more ikon pass holders come than already do?
IsaacNW82*POWDR resorts but yea, they're Alterra's biggest partner on the whole Ikon pass thing
HapgThis might be a retarded prediction but I foresee Alterra forcing the resort/ski patrol to shut down the East Wall and Steep Gullies at some point in the coming years.
Either preemptively or following a bunch of retarded Jerry’s killing themselves trying to go down either.
I’m not saying this terrain is some all time challenging terrain, but the average skier at the basin is 10x better than what you see at Breck, Keystone, and Copper.

PartyBullshiitIs the closest town with hotels Frisco? I can’t picture out of state people flying just to go stay in Frisco for basin. I’d picture they still go to the bigger resorts if they’re on ikon assuming flying from out of state.
BigPurpleSkiSuitAlterra is better than Vail, but there is just a horde of ikoners nowadays who will look at the forecast and fly/drive into town to ski on pow days which really sucks for the people who live there when suddenly there's 40 minute lines anytime it snows more than 3 inches
jhnegbrtThere’s a lot of other dangerous terrain that has stayed open under Alterra management. The Cirque at WP, alpine terrain at Solitude, and most notably headwall/kt-22 at palisades.
I share your fear, but considering ski patrol was pressured to open kt-22 before the death earlier this year, I think Alterra is incentivized by the fact that at least a portion of its guests are loyal because of sick terrain.
Farmville420abay (which is fine because no one is going to abay to ride park lol)

profa_212Nah. Altera has plenty more burly terrain at other resorts that they keep open. Palisades/Alpine have plenty of wayyyyy more gnarly terrain. Mammoth is up there too.

HapgI’ve never skied jn Cali but I feel like there’s a higher concentration of tards who ski in summit
