Moment Fan bois....and why ON3P is better

mikemYou know. I have thought this about moment before, and I want to know from where they spawn.

Ehh..I'm probably just too much of a skeptic, but when I see things hyped like this I do start to think..then there is ON3P...doesn't even have a review section on their website, hardly any reviews online, etc. And yet they are incredibly successful.

I do wonder if ON3P is pin holed into the park category, whereas Moment is not (look at differences in their instagram posts).

Just because a lot of people hype Moment doesn't mean it's overhyped or bad nor did I ever infer that. I just found it interesting that out of the two brands you see more people recommending Moments vs ON3Ps lately. I know quite a few people who have multiple Moment skis and they've commented on it as well. Are you offended by me saying Moment fanbois? Don't take shit so seriously this is the Newschoolers forum...we are all just posting shit that means hardly anything to anyone other than ourselves.

absolutely no offense to the fan boi comment. You’re new here so you have a lot to learn. I’m a self admitted moment fan boi. I don’t deny it. That’s why @Vish-shoe tagged me into your post. I have 7 pairs and looking to add more. They’re the perfect skis for me but I don’t claim they’re the best skis period across the board, because a ski like that doesn’t exist.



too many skier types, mountains, conditions etc etc etc. what one person may love another may hate. Closest mountain to me is little Cataloochee in NC. I’ve never skiied any of moments there because none would be fun on a mountain like that.

For me personally I’ve gotten along really well with every moment ski I’ve been on. Admittedly I’ve haven’t skied every one and usually won’t comment when that’s the case. Same reason I don’t recommend moments in every thread to every person. Just not right for everyone’s type or mountain.

Personally the reason I’m a fan boi has been my interaction with the people at moment itself. Being able to get in touch with a real person essentially any time I need to get answers about anything. All the services they provide for free at the factory from mounts, tunes, quick waxes all in 10-30 mins while having some free beer. The fact they’ve helped me get skis that were “sold out” or just not in the line up anymore because I really wanted a pair. While I haven’t personally had to warranty anything I’ve seen more than enough threads where moment stepped up on their own and typically went above or beyond what they needed to and made things right.

that stuff may not be important to you but it is to me. So I have no problem praising moment for being a top ski company making skis in the states. I also enjoy their shapes and most of the top sheets. Just my personal preference.

I have absolutely nothing against ON3P skis. Never even been on them. This is not a moment vs them thing.

Nice to hear about the customer service side of the company. I have found it nice that you can just chat with someone live and see actual reviews on their website. Not sure why more companies don't do that. A lot of us are splitting hairs when it comes to the skis like Moment, ON3P, etc. so when it comes down to it the customer service provided and care for customers can really be the differentiator.

Honestly, I hopped on here hoping to get some better feedback on Wildcat 101 vs the Jeff 100. I assumed there'd be more freestyle oriented skiers on here that would have input. I am actually leaning towards the Wildcat due to them offering it in the 179 vs the Jeff in 181 (From what I've read ON3P measures post press vs Moment and others doing it prepress??..My Praxis skis are 183 their website but actual measure 180 as an example). My wife cut me down today and made me measure myself so I realized I am actually 176 (5'9") instead of 178 (5'10") so going based off of my height and the fact that I'd like it to be really playful.

blazer258I've had my Kartel 106's for 7-8 years now and they're still rock solid, extremely durable and well built skis. That said, I'm thinking of getting either the Jeff or Deathwish over the summer, from what I've read the triple camber grips east coast hardpack well. Conversely I was on a lift with someone recently who said they we're replacing their Jeffs because of the lack of edge hold

dwt802They’re both dope but I think a lot of people here just know ON3P is bombproof from first hand experiences or from a good friend. Also it started here so we are all also slightly bias. But both are solid skis, never ridden moment but I would ride a pair. Have had many pairs of on3ps and other skis and they really are a built a level above all else I’ve ridden in most aspects.

PartyBullshiitTriple camber is real. Had the 104 and 112 wishes in Breck last month and had a decent amount of firm and icy patches. The 104 ate everything up. The 112 did ok since there was a decent more firm overall but would have benefited from a tad more soft stuff on top.

had the ghost trains out at beaver this month and was blown away by the edge hold for such a massive ski. I was genuinely worried about ice patches on those but they were pretty damn solid for the size of the ski 194 126. Wasn’t railing edges but it more than held its own for the occasional icy slide I’d encounter.

swegman2Edge hold with either ski is only going to be so good given the profile, effective edge and tune. All about your expectations. If you want more bite a Deathwish 112/104 is a great option.

colerichardmyersYeah agreed can’t go wrong with either being Made in USA, well built skis. One thing a previous commenter said, and something I’ve seen before, is that ON3P skis (and the Jeff 100-110 variants) don’t hold an edge well). I also have seen people say this is untrue and possible just a factory time issue. What’s your experience?

colerichardmyersThanks. Yeah I don’t need that absolute best edge hold. My Praxis doesn’t have the very best, but its other attributes make it a worthwhile compromise.

hamsauceI had this issue. Sent an email to support, got a way more detailed response than i could ask for. Two days later Scott called me just to make sure i got the issue sorted out and if i needed any more help with the tuning.

best customer service experience ive ever had. You get what you pay for. They both make dang good skis, and i havent experienced moment customer service, ON3P is top notch.

also i took them through a minefield at big sky and they came out unscratched

colerichardmyersSweet good to know. How'd you sort it out? Tune issue? Yeah I emailed them about length on the Jeff 101 (176 vs 181) and rather than just provide a generic response, they actually followed up asking important questions to get a better understanding of me as a skier. The sketchy edge grip thing just sounded like a few one off experiences and didn't seem like it could be true of ON3P skis considering they are made for the PNW where we get a lot of snow, but also deal with rain and the subsequent ice and hard pack.

hamsauceThey should be tuned to 1:1. However, just ski them a couple days and they naturally detune.

Have good technique and youl be fine. If you want to lay down slalom turns on ice, get some Stocklis or Fischers. I know people from the east who daily 108 jeffs and they work.

keep in mind on3p measures skis different. My 191 jeffs are like 4cm longer than my 190 wildcats, and my cousins 186 Kartels are the exact same length as my 190 cats. They are super rockered so they ski short but something to keep in mind

colerichardmyersYeah the DW 104 tempts me. I am really interested in the triple camber since I’m in the PNW and get ice, hard pack shit at times. If it doesn’t sacrifice the playfulness of the WC 101 I’d just get that, albeit I like that the WC 101 is mounted a bit more forward and can go +1 or +2 from there.

Did you ever measure your WC to see if it is actually 176 or something post press?
