Does Eileen Gu give anyone else the vibe that she is always reading off a script? All her media interactions feel so.....forced. It's like constantly self-promotional, sales mode. Gives me the rock vibes. Good for her I guess
She is one of the top earning female athletes in the world right now, and definitely being coached by her PR team. More than any other extreme sports athlete, she has to stay vanilla in order to appease China. It's a bummer - she's clearly American, but the insane earning potential and influence overseas is undeniable. She's setting herself up for generational wealth, knowingly supporting a country that commits humanitarian crimes. It's a tough choice, but at the end of the day she is raising the profile of skiing globally. She's clearly smart and knows what she's doing. I'm interested to see how her story evolves as she grows older..
She is heavily coached and it's not for her skiing. Girl has been doing the same pipe run for two years. Maybe three.
Unfortunately that's all it takes to win women's pipe. The "evolution" there is glacial.

And she dropped out of slope because she was "sick" but still felt fine to show up for Men's pipe a few hours later. The real reason she dropped out of slope is because she knew she couldn't win. She came in second at the world cup event the week before. She knew she couldn't be Tess or Mathilde so she dropped out.
And take a look at her post on instagram about winning pipe. Just complaining about being injured that you could barely walk. You know how that makes your competitors feel? Like absolute trash. Take a page from someone like Mikaela who is constantly lifting up her competitors in victory. Eileen is the exact opposite. Maybe it's because she is young. Who knows.
I think she'll keep doing the same pipe run for the next few years. Win a couple contest and then drop out of skiing.

Kind of boring to make a post about how siiiiiick x-games was this year. I didn't really notice much of a difference tbh. Tom was great. Judging was fine in my opinion. Whatever.

Does she make more than $5M/yr? Probably. $10M? Probably.
China has 1.5B people. And the largest luxury market on the planet. She's one of the biggest faces in China. It's not that difficult to imagine her contracts with IWC + Porsche being 7 figure amounts.

If she hadn't been a sell out then she would most likely be an inspiration to me (just not a big fan of her style). Just sounds like propoganda to me when she says shes inspiring Chinese girls to ski. Dont really think it works like that for them...

Plenty of men do almost the same run year after year too. But they'll throw in an additional rotation or maybe a double. David Wise did the same version of a run for years. Often adding in something extra each year. But overall, very similar to his previous season.
Girls, for the most part, just do the same run. Before Eileen came along, I think we were in like year 10 of identical female pipe runs.
As far as discrediting her ski ability, I haven't seen her ski outside of a park or pipe. So I can't speak to her ability. I just know she does the same run over and over.
