hb_lazI'll see some little ass kids do some crazy shit. if only I had access to an airbag, tramps, pool, coaching, nice parks, and balls. also why tf do they all have pivot 18s and weigh 130.
Garing1919Comp kids make me feel like shit too but then I remember I’m an adult and that they’re children.
bradwaltersWtf? Why hate...they love this shit too just like all of us.
Young_pattyGonna throw out some rhetoric that might change your mind:
1) Everyone started somewhere, and most people that aren't insecure about their skiing will be hyped to see you in the park trying to progress. At some point or another we were all little gremlins 50-50'ing boxes and straight airing jumps, even those comp skiers you watch on the big screen. Just focus on progressing, if you can learn basics like doing a 360 or grinding a rail then you're already better than half of all skiers.
2) Yeah it would be cool if you had access to airbag, tramps, pool, coaching, and nice parks. But you don't, those people do because they spend tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars to persue comp skiing. You know what you don't need those things to do? Be a local legend, be the guy at your hill that inspires the next generations of you's to pick up park skiing. You don't need all that stuff to be a sick ass skier.
3) Why do you want to be a comp skier? Be honest. Not many of them make a lot of money, or any for that matter. It's a lot of hardwork, long ass days of off hill training, skiing, and film review. I've skied in USSA competitions before, it's honestly way more fun to just go ski with your friends and not have to worry about training, planning runs, and scoring well enough to move on. Comp skiing is very rewarding and a blast, but equally challenging and frustrating at the same time. Enjoy skiing, you don't need to make a career out of it.
4) And this one is the corniest of all: you're probably great at other stuff. Seriously, so what the kids at your hill can dub or hit crazy rail combos, they probably suck at a lot of other stuff. I ski with people who are awful skiers and snowboarders, but they're incredible artists, skateboarders, cooks, or photographers. There is more to life than skiing, believe it or not. Yes skiing is awesome, and it's clearly most of our passions here, but there isn't even snow for half the godamn year. Appreciate your other skills.
Anyway's I'm stoned and sleepy, and it's past my bedtime. So there's my 2 cents, take it or leave it.
