Pivots worth it?

Im thinking about getting pivot 12s for a new pair of wides. The price is a little steep though are they worth it. I want to use the ski for 90 percent park and a little all mounatin.

There's pros and cons. Pivots are definitely heavy and expensive but the first time you take a bail and get all twisted up you'll be happy you have them. The higher DIN models have a metal toe piece that's a bit more durable but it adds a bit more weight. I like pivots and ski them on all of my skis so I say yes they are worth it.

they're great binding and for the most part are largely agreed to be the gold standard. they are pricey though. what's your budget, what kind of skiing do you do?

tyrolia attacks are everyone's favorite binding that is super affordable but good (don't get the 11s though, they're kid bindings), salomon STHs are loved too

Attacks are fine, and for the price you can't go wrong. Pivots are overrated. Don't get me wrong, they are great bindings, I've got a pair of 18's, but not worth the $300 price difference. You can get attack 14 for $150 at most shops, solid binding, consistent release, comes in a lot of colors and looks good, go for the attacks.

Weight on the pivots is a figment of your imagination, go all out and get durable 15s

Poke around on offerup. Have found fks for 70 - 150 bucks.

Think of the metal housing pivots, currently the 15 and 18, as an investment. They’re not cheap but you’ll be able to abuse them far longer than any plastic binding.

I have a few sets of P14s that are 5-10 years old, and while they still function just fine, they’re definitely a bit clapped. Since the P15 came out it’s been my go to as they’ll outlast any ski they’re mounted on.

If the weight doesn’t scare you off the only other thing to keep in mind is that the 15 and 18 don’t have upward release in the toe.


TL/DR: There’s a reason why old dudes like their metal bindings, and metal pivots are about as bomber as they come.

yes probably, i can ski attack as well but it doesnt have the same feel/flex as pivot.

Pivots eat fingers, they lack adjustment range, and the brakes bend so easily. Over rated af

Pivots aren't really more durable than many other bindings, the brakes and turntable plates usually being the weak points.
The screws for the heel piece are quite close together which makes it easier for the heel to tear out of your ski.
The moving parts loosen up just as quickly as the track on most other bindings. They also have a smaller range of adjustability than most bindings.

The best reason to get pivots is the feel. IMO they ski better than any other binding. The ski can flex more naturally as the binding has a small foot print. Since the heel is vertical when clipped in, the swing weight in the tail of your ski is reduced slightly.

All that in mind, Tyrolia Attack 13/14 are around half the price, have a similar stand height and will last just fine.

Grab a pair or 2 of attacks at the end of every season when they are pretty much giving them away.

for real though. I have a couple pairs of the old FKS 155 Race models mounted up. They have to be 20 years old now, and ive been using them for 10. They aint pretty, but they are absolutely bombproof.
