JesushadvishnusSo I'm currently vacationing in France, and I just bought new boots. However, the fitting process felt slightly rushed. I've always rented boots before, so I don't know how boot fitting should be done properly. Basically, the person measured my feet while I was standing and sitting, and only made me try two different boots. The left one felt better, so we went with that. He then "heat molded" the shell in an oven and used a boot dryer-looking machine for the liner. He also made a custom insole that he heated to make it fit. He never saw my foot without a sock on and never did the shell fit test. The whole process, including me paying, took about 40 minutes. But I'm uncertain if the boot is actually snug enough (again, I've never had proper boots, so it's hard for me to imagine the feeling). Did I get ripped off, or am I just a retarded masochist?

PacificRimJobYeah, I mean, he definitely should have checked your foot without a sock and shell checked you... and if he didnt measure your heel/instep perimeter, he could have missed out on what volume to fit you in.. (generally, if your hip is smaller than the length of your foot, I put you in an LV, and if its bigger by more than 1cm, you might need an HV - but then again most HV-needers are pretty quick to point out that theyre struggling to get into the boot in the first place..)
I have seen some dogshit fits come out of france... especially in terms of the footbed... lots of sidas footbeds with absolutely no heel posting done, allowing the thing to just roll around with your foot. Some people can manage it fine, but it definitely isnt good for flexible feet that pronate a lot and need plenty of support.
Nonetheless, hopefully this guy got you into a boot that's at least mostly decent for your foot... if you want to shell-check yourself, its pretty easy to do... as for the volume, worst comes to worst you have to slap some volume reducers into the boot to take up some space, and heel wrap yourself.
