QST 92 - General questions

I am looking into getting a pair of Salomon QST 92s but i have some questions that the ski shops in my town cant answer:
- The recommended mounting point is -9cm, since there is a Ti-plate for extra support. however, -9 is quite far back, is it possible to mount at -2 or even dead center or does that interfere with the construction of the ski?
- How does the ski perform generally on the mountain? Any issues with its durability?
- Do they butter?

First of all No I wouldn't mount it forward of the rec. you may be able to get away with a few cm forward but definitely not close to center (it isn't a twin so idk why you'd wanna mount center anyway). If it has the Ti plate at -9 that's where Salomon has determined it should be mounted and rides best at. I cant speak to the durability as I haven't ridden these skis but salomon has always made good skis. Last because of the rear mount point id say they probably dont butter well.

I'll echo the statement above, probably not the ski for you

Well, I waslookinf for a ski thats similar to the Recreation from simply and tbh, my research didnt go that deep. i just saw the qst 92s and thought that i might be able to tweak a bit. but thanks for the honest opinion.

The recreation is a swallow tail and qst is more traditional shape. Something like the sakana or pescado from line might be close depending on what you're looking to use the ski for but those are still going to have a more rear mounting point.

The black crow mirus cor is a hybrid freestyle swallowtail ski. That will get your more of a buttery all mountain ski that's going to mount closer to center. Super weird design, I don't fully understand yet , but people seem to love it

Yeah, thats the issue, i dont really know what i am looking for. Some kind of an allrounder, stable to really charge on groomes, a lil bit of pow, hardpack and slushy conditions. should work for an occasional sidehit, sometimes a rail or shit and some butters. underfoot < 100 and tip

I guess that's kind of tough because a super stable ski isnt going to butter well and vice versa. Something like the Edollo from Armada is a good ski. The unleashed 98 from nordica is going to be a more hard charging option but you can still take it in the park. I'm currently on the Nordicas and they're sick. The L-toro from fatypus is one of the best skis I've ever skied. Could look into the reckoner line from k2 as well. the elan playmaker is more on the playful side but still rips the whole mountain. just so many options you really gotta narrow down what you prioritize in a ski be it stability at speed or playfullness.

yes, thats exactly what i am struggling with... i am currently on the giver, which is a pretty playful ski, but i am somehow not 100% satisfied with its performance... like, dont get me wrong, its an awesome ski but there is something missing, if you understand what i mean.
i have some bad experiences with the reckoner, so i wouldnt get one again. however, u gave me plenty of good input, i will look into that once i have time

definitely! I totally get it man. Its a tough line to walk trying to find that perfect one ski quiver. I've heard mixed reviews on the reckoners as well I was more so throwing it out there as an option. Some people love them some people hate them. But anyways, best of luck with your search.
