even to run a contest, in which kids will provide their videos for free, in which level1 is getting the most exposure..?
do these kids have to cover their own travel and medical ?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but everything from flights to housing to food is paid for, I do agree, with the large company they are, they can afford to pay everyone a bit.

i would imagine mammoth provides housing and park build for their exposure... this is what he did throughout level1 existence. provide false delusional exposure to both sponsors and riders, walked away with the profit/RED cameras...
i cant believe i can say out loud, poor tammy walruss, invested everything he had in to level 1, just to create his own film company, "good company"
so sad.

I was thinking today about how level 1 hasn’t done anything significant with their superunknown winners in the last few years. I can barely remember who won and they def didn’t have solo projects w level 1. It’s be cool if they did.

and Wins an invite,
should receive a professionally produced edit of their freestyle skiing at the superunknown park, free of any copyrighting by level 1..., at the very least.

I actually had the exact opposite impression. It seems Level 1 does a lot for skiers with little direct monetary gain. I've actually wondered how the company generates revenue these days aside from merchandise sales and ski premier tickets...

Also, since when is Level 1 a big company? My understanding is that it's Berman, Connor, and maybe some intern behind the scenes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Regardless, Superunkown is fucking dope, and I don't see any amateur skiers complaining about an all expenses paid ski vacation in the world's best park. Have some fucking respect my guy.

Yeah I guess level 1 does own the footage but don't they send the footage to the riders for them to use however they want? Don't see the problem here. Level 1 does use the footage for their instagram/promotion but I really doubt any skiers feel like they're getting a bad deal at all. Idk this seems like a really dumb take unless I'm missing something here

I'm very glad SU is still going. Has always been fun to watch and it's nice that we have an institution that's been happening for two decades now.

While level 1 is undoubtedly still putting out good videos, one of the major points of SU (filming a part for their annual films) is gone. I hate to say it, but it's not the same without that. Times have changed and we are no longer in the era where are the best ski videos are being made by production companies. Most people probably aren't going to pay for content, which makes sense considering how many dope videos get released for free.

I’m not saying it’s cold hearted, I mean it’s a boring af take that people have been whining about for at least a decade. People expect L1P to be some endless spring of money that doesn’t need to make a profit for itself, that they should be dishing out huge piles of cash to skiers, and then those same whiners will turn around and NOT buy their ski movies. If you don’t like the way they do business, which is not a remotely controversial opinion, then don’t support them.

Again, I am not disagreeing with anything you’re saying, it’s just a stale cold take. If you ask me it’s better for ski companies to produce content themselves and write it off as a marketing expense rather than do what L1P does. You are clearly not an L1P fan, so why would they listen to you when you demand that they pay a bunch of skiers a shitload of money that they almost certainly don’t have??

we would have a level1 video this year, that i would probably buy with money...

furthermore, josh wasted funds on high end cameras, bad travel ideas, bad ideas and production instead of paying tom... he could still be filming his entire production on gopro and iphones, because that would be" sustainable..."

my freestyle set up is like a 2024 Ferrari compared to a 1970 pinto.
a full suspension Ibis, compared to a tricycle.
but lets do trained freestyle in race boots instead of freestyle!!!

L1P doesn’t cover all of their athletes expenses on trips, they are expected to use money they get from sponsors. Basically L1P is a company that skiers can use to get more exposure, they aren’t a company that actually pays skiers. This is why a lot of skiers just release their own content now, they are basically cutting out the film company as a middle man. Back in the 2000s when it was hard to get clips because cameras were so much less accessible, the film production company model made a lot more sense. But it todays age where anyone can pick up a camera, it doesn’t make sense for all skiers to give their footage to L1P for exposure cause they can just produce and post their own stuff.

Idk how L1P current business model works with supporting smaller projects, I think it’s cool though. Any video with the L1P association is guaranteed to be high quality

Superunknown is one of the best events that happens every year, every single skier I've ever interacted with at superunknown is having the time of their life and memories are made that will never be forgotten. Nobody there is expecting money from L1P thats not the point of Superunknown and its not like its pulling in a ton of revenue, its an event that is run at cost.

Superunknown shoots were some of the best trips/events I ever went too and I looked forward to attending every year, I imagine the feeling is the same for all the attendees to this day.

people that are completely irrelevant to the scene, sucked money out some how....

how much does Nick Shoess get from NS to be a contributor? he also does not give any money to the kids he films, but collects a check directly from Ns, how much is that check? the kids that are skiing need Thier money.

Every skier at SU is instructed to bring a hard drive to the event to take their footage home with them. You're misinformed and making assumptions. L1P hires an editor to make recap videos, do you even understand the time and money it would take to make 10 different edits of individual skiers? You're such a self proclaimed genius, but you're actually naive as fuck.

Forrest.Gumphow did you afford to get to the event? and what was your job?

I attended the event as an NS employee, NS paid for me to go, but lodging was always provided for superunknown, for everyone. Some events I was doing social media stuff, some I was filming the skiers.

Not Sure... but my favorite TBI from "travis" delivering me his hardest running haymaker to my head... and me silencing him (8 weeks of baby food with jaw wired shut...) by breaking his jaw in the following split second... priceless.
but when the police asked me my name, and i responded, "the man , the myth , the legend...." i deserved an academy award for that.
