Assuming the main issues have been rectified considering this will be the big update. Happy to see it looks like the purple toe is back
I bet it’ll be easier to remove the toe and maybe better climbing bails and brake retention. I don’t think they can shed too much on the weight, though. Unless you could remove the heel, then it’d be the lightest touring setup on the market.

It would be a big pain in the ass, but if you really wanted to get the weight down you could use inserts on the heels

elm.Looks easier to get the toe on and off. Less error on mounting it. Is the brake pad different on the heel? Hopefully it will retain the brakes better
They did change the brake lock just a bit to help lock the brake sturdier. The whole system is going be sold as a whole binding now, so no more upgrading an existing binding. Not sure what that means for buying spare parts or piecing things together yet though. The whole thing is much more bomber than it already was that way, and all AFD configurations will be including in the box. All retailers are getting one set this winter until the official launch next winter. Not sure what we're going to do with our yet!

No longer upgradable? That’s going to jump the cost a lot. I gotta buy an upgrade kit now then.

Yikes thats bad news. I was considering upgrading when they drop but they cant make me pay full retail for pivots

Very disappointing. Not having to buy an entire binding at retail is why I got cast and not duke pt or shifts when I wanted to have a second set of skis that could be used to skin
It's possible that there will still be some way to simply upgrade, but that's not how it sounds in the info I've received. So we'll see, don't go down to rabbit hole yet!

Good thinking. A few kicking around in the CO area. My first season on cast and was just thinking it would be nice to get a second ski kit in the future for my dw112. I guess the future is now. Or the future is dwt.
well, IDK. Looks like the mount will be less accuracy demanding, that's good. At the same time, I don't see how this version of CAST solves any other previous version issues.

Because the toe piece no longer has to hope all 4 posts are perfect. Now it’s all controlled by the single plate. One plate is easier than 4 posts

yeah, I that's clear, and that's definitely a plus! But these side-threads for moving toe pieces on and off... well, I guess it should work better then CAST 1.0. I had awfull experience with it. Plus I remember everyone complained about how these toe baseplates developed play.

Ya all cons of the 1.0 for sure. Which all the improvements for the 2.0 were essentially to get rid of all those issues. Only time will tell but my understanding is they’re been testing for a while now.
I’m very excited to throw a set on my ghost trains. I’m only doing the upgrade kit though as I already have pivots mounted.

I think the biggest problem with the 1.0 is they didn't design it to be mounted by shitty ski techs haha. The screw towers for the toe weren't an issue if you actually know what you're doing, which fair enough to say that instructions to do it perfectly weren't really included but I think Cast assumed more mechanically inclined techs were mounting them.

yes, they are. I have 2 bindings across 5 skis, swap is usually around 5 minutes

It depends how you value time vs. $. It realistically takes me 15 minutes to swap, but i loctite everything. Pivots are tricky because of the brake and half moons.
i wouldn’t do it again unless i had a massive ski collection.
the install is a mount and it will take up more space than a regular mount because the diameter of the quiver killer is bigger than a screw

Got em mounted yesterday. Toe is satisfyingly easy to mount/use. Brake retainer looks updated but I need more time to see how well it works. All purple pivots is kind of a flex. Didn't want them but they were sold out of the upgrade kit so I was like welp
