Too many whack skiers not wearing a helmet

Does wearing a bucket get cool again, as too many beginners are not wearing one?
I don't think it's cool anymore tbh... rather it is a statement of disrespect to wear one and wreck no-helmet kids in a SLVSH (if they still know what that is).

i wear helmets situationally. backcountry in unfamiliar/high risk terrain? helmet. mellow park day? no helmet, but might regret later when i get cocky and wanna start doing flips.

i have one nit pick with street, which is no helmet unless you’re doing something that’s pushing you’re skill level. not like that’s a rule, just a personal thing

I made a rule for myself that I would only wear a helmet when I am trying to progress and now I wear a helmet everyday 😎

Wearing no bucket feels so much better then wearing one, same with face masks and gloves something about riding with minimal stuff on me makes me feel way better. But if I’m trying something out of my comfort zone I’ll definitely be wearing one

i've seen friends get more broke off on chill spots vs high consequence ones. maybe people are more likely to get smoked when they let their guard down.


i'ma wear mine 99% of the time i got skis on, but i've got no judgement for the people who don't wanna wear one.

it’s just reckless to not wear a helmet. maybe you don’t need to worry about you hurting yourself, but you def need to worry about jerry who just double ejected going 76mph down a mogul field and who’s skis are now going through your bare cranium. you may not value your life but other people do so wear it for them.

I can only agree with gloves thing. I only wear a mask of the weather is really fucked. But if it's not that cold I don't wear gloves

Wearing a helmet is worth it in almost every condition.
I'll ski without it for a few chill laps in the slush. But the other 99% of the season it stays on my head

i just think that theres no reason to not wear a helmet. wearing a helmet dosent really restrict you from doing anything.
the pros of wearing a helmet extremely outweigh the cons. but i guess its preference so do as you wish

Maybe it’s just because Mammoth is so crowded most of the time but I wear a helmet 100% of the time. I’m not worried about crashing. I’m worried about someone crashing in to me.


Also, the first time you break a helmet I promise you’re not going back. I obliterated a helmet when I hit a tree in the backcountry a few seasons ago, just got a mild concussion.

tbf, i def wear helmet more now than i used to. someone else mentioned being scared of jerrys smashing into you from uphill and at Ikon mountains in CO that’s real af.

also, letting your guard down is definitely the silent killer, that’s why i ski with a gun.

seriously- It just takes once…seeing a fit 22 year old paralyzed drooling out of his mouth, never able to walk again. Seeing a 45 year old father of 3, whose wife has to now care for her husband and kids with no help. All because they want to look cool and not wear a helmet.



its just not worth it. Im not saying live your life scared under a rock. I am saying be smart. If theres something preventable that you can do that greatly reduces chance of serious injury in a fall…then do it. Ive had concussions skiing and crashes skating where i would have been in the hospital and may never ski again if i didnt have a helmet. A MIPS helmet is right around $100. No one worth spending time with is gonna flame you for wearing a helmet. You only get one brain. Choose wisely.

As a concussed individual I can confirm that not wearing a helmet is super fucking cool and makes you look like a badass with no concern for their own safety who likes to party

Helmet is on no matter what if I am skiing, just like if I'm on my mountain bike. Not worth the risk to feel cool

I'd be eating through a tube with some of the crashes I've taken if I wasn't wearing a helmet. Basically always ski with one.

I had a back injury a few seasons ago and skied without a helmet so I wouldn't be as tempted to hit features.
