Pin bindings and rails

So where I do most of my BC skiing, I pass a few pvc rails and this wooden feature on the approach. So ofc I hit them when I pass by on the way down, especially if friends are already there sessioning:

Anybody else end up sliding rails on pins? got any clips? Or am I just an idiot?

Skied park on JJ UL's with kingpins mounted on them. They have 15 edge cracks.

Dude my kingpin 13's pre-released when I was mid-arch during a GS turn on my Woodsman 109s and luckily I slid downhill but that was one of the worst moments of my life.

What did you have the din settings at? Only time I've released from mine was when I had a really bad crash and only one ski ejected.

Heels are set pretty-high honestly. 13's are great for touring and release but maybe not for hammering turns in-bounds.

Just got rid of my SHITS. Made a thread about it. Ordered rasta 15's cuz that was the only one with a 130 brake. (I didn't want to pay an extra $100 just for a 130 brake on a diff color binding.)

I cant count the amount of times my kingpins have released on me doing the most mundane shit. But ive never had them release on me in powder

I got mine gifted to me, I know tons of people have had bad experiences with them but I’ve had no problems so far. If they break I might go for a pin binding or cast though

Heard good things about CAST, I also have some Duke PT's and they're great, ski indistinguishably from a Jester. Seems to me that CAST is pretty much the same appeal, but for people who prefer pivots.

Big problem is weight though, my pins are Alpinist 12's and they weight like 270g or something like that, it's absolutely ridiculous how light they are. I've been skiing them harder and harder and have yet to have issues, but I still can't say I 100% trust them, I pretty much only do the tricks on them that I know I've got dialed

I love how everyone calls them shit now. I called those out at first glance of that junk years ago. kingpin (mwerks) ftw!

Yea I definitely argue they do, I had both bindings mounted to some very similar skis and I actually can't tell the difference on snow. If you look at them side by side, DPT16's are basically just Jesters but the toe piece mounts to a pin toe piece instead of the ski. The heel pieces are identical, you can even swap them over, just need the new brakes for touring.




Toe wings are a different shape but the rollers that contact your boot are the same. Same afd, same stack height, id bet the same toe spring was even used too

What about the mechanism that allows the toe peice to be removed? is there not any play in the toe from that?

Ive done quite a few sidecountry turned resort days or brought the wrong boots days with my alpinist 12s. Absolutely never had an issue and I have always been shocked. Feels super weird ripping bumps/chutes inbounds with a 200g brakeless binding but whatever.


My kingpins were so weird. They never released on anything gnarly, but would occasionally pop off in completely mundane scenarios and that kept me from trusting them.

I haven't had any, at least not yet. I've had them for 1.5 seasons or so
