Went for a bootfitting and am trying to decide between the mindbenders or the hawx ultras

SewLchooNers@onenerdykid Are you guys preparing to release Hawx Prime BOAs or Magna BOAs anytime soon? Can you explain how these are designed specifically for different volume feet vs how the Mindbenders seem to be taking an all-in-one approach?

Ill let matt touch the Prime BOA but we are not taking an all feet approach. The Mindbender BOA are mid volume with a forfoot range, but a true low or high volume foot wont work in them, they are still MV. We have HV and LV boa boots coming.

Hawx Prime BOA and Hawx Prime XTD BOA are coming for the 24/25 season. We just dropped a teaser of it on social media yesterday actually.

With our Hawx & Hawx XTD families of boots, we create dedicated molds and lasts for each last shape. Doing this is far more expensive (roughly a million Euros for each mold series) but it is the only way to get proper LV, MV, and HV boots. What I mean by this is in order to have a last with a low volume heel, ankle, mid foot, instep height, forefoot width, etc. you need to build a dedicated mold and last for it. In order to build a medium volume heel, ankle, mid foot, instep height, etc. you need to build a dedicated mold and last for it. The other approach is to make one outer mold with two different inner last options. This is more cost effective, but you won't be able to make the LV and MV versions be noticeably different (without making incredibly compromised wall thickness for one or both).

Both ways can lead to great fitting and skiing boots. We take the dedicated mold & last shape for each Hawx volume and we also take the one mold/two lasts approach for our Redster Club Sport and (no-longer-available) World Cup boots. Just depends on how much a difference you want to make between the two fits.

We just made a brand new Ultra in 22/23, so it's too early to change those molds out yet. You just can't put BOA on existing boots, you need to molds & lasts. It requires a substantial investment and you'll see brands updating their ranges with BOA usually one mold series at a time.

Hawx Prime was due for a refresh in 24/25, so it was the next boot to get BOA.

Correct.

Not only are both boots getting BOA, but they are getting more big toe room, more heel hold, and a more stable shell construction. We made them stable enough for Bobby Brown, Sage, and McNutt to make these their go-to boots.
