DrailFrom my perspective, you're asking two questions.
1) 'OG' skis you want to acquire
2) 'OG' skis you want to actually ski on.
#1 is a happy thought exercise with a good list, where as #2 - there are not very many skis from the early twin tip era that could actually stand up to modern ski construction.
Any ski from the early twin tip days are mostly cap construction, foam core, and a 'wet' flex - doing any kind of controlled butter on any early twin tips is not what you would want it to be. Ski manufacturers also were not very good at building skis that were up to the job that we put them through to the point where I managed to destroy incredible amounts of skis in the late 90's/early 2000's, topping out at breaking 7 pairs in the 2000/2001 season.
I would not consider for a second to actually mount a pair of park skis made before 2010 to use them. They would be better served as wall art than a usable ski.
So... with that in mind: if i were to collect 'OG' skis to add to my collection of art, my list would include, but not limited to"
- Olin Mk4
- K2 - The Morrison (first pro model ski EVER)
- Solomon 1080 Mk1
- Line Ostness (first pair of pro model twin tip)
- Volant Spatula
If ANYONE is able to collect those 5 skis they would have a physical collection of the skis that have changed the game over the past 40 years.
Good post, but I wouldn't say all skis before 2010. My 2004 set pistols skied really well after I bought them last year. I didn't get to ski them super hard(they had shitty market m1000s, since replaced with some attacks), but they skied really well.
Can you elaborate on the 1080 mk1? What's different between mk1 and other 1080 models?
I've started a decent collection, and I have a goal to add more, mostly with demo bindings so others can take a spin on them. Essentially I would like to create a usable ski museum of sorts.
Currently have 04 Seth Pistols, 70s Olin Mark IVs, 08 Hellbents, 13 Hellbents(a regular in my quiver), 01 1080 Vincent dorion pros, 07 Line Invaders(with tele bindings).
Must adds:
97 K2 Poacher
OG 1080s
Ostness Dragons
Volant Spatula
03 Scratch FS (red and yellow), would also love the mogul version
03 Scratch BC (orange and black)
Wish list:
05 K2 Fujative
05 Aramada AR5
04 Troublemakers
03 Dynastar Concepts
01? Dynastar Concepts(cow base) - is this the correct year
06 K2 made n aks
