Spinning more is a part of it, but so is style, spot selection, terrain, and everything else that makes skiing interesting to watch. Remember, dudes were doing quads in aerials in the 80s. But freestyle skiing has progressed massively since then

i hate to agree with ana on anything just cuz he handles things like a fuckin idiot (although i have a soft spot for mental illness and i do think the homie has a personality disorder) but there is some validity to his argument. j skis is a prime example of how marketing has shifted. ‘won hit wonders’ i think they were called. just get some bangers from the gram for free or next to nothing. its so much easier than placing a name of someone on your skis for a promodel. you’re betting on them to represent you company accurately and that goes beyond competitions and winning x games. they are betting on your personal life as well. so brands arent spending money on building someone up to the quote “legendary” status like before.

that's extreme, but still what he's saying, which is that it takes much more than it used to stand out, in the pro world trip 18s don't mean anything anymore, what was once considered 'legendary' is now 'just good'. skiers can be objectively amazing, but relative to others, they can be average at the same time. skiers used to be objectively and relatively amazing, now they are objectively amazing and yet relatively mid.
i'm just explaining what he's saying, and it's really not that complicated.

BLandzYa I don’t agree with that statement at all. If a “legendary” skier is defined as someone who dominates their subcategory of skiing then theres literally only like 4 legends every 10 years anyways. Phil dominated street forever, Henrik and TWall dominated x games forever, candide dominated BC forever, and even with that being said they didn’t even win every comp. I would actually argue the opposite, that theres going to be more legends than ever. Like ya theres more dudes than can trip 18 now but thats the exact same thing as more people being able to backflip nowadays. Its not this dramatic thing like hes making it out to be.

I think we are in a great era of skiing right now, and I have loved and appreciated every era of skiing as they have come and gone. The people who endlessly worship a certain bygone era and condemn the current scene are “old heads.”

partyandBSnaw this backs my point up i think. no ski model is for a specific skier at j skis. those guys got a ski graphic for a season. sponsoring film projects is sick but again not specific to people. the trend is light commitment for a few projects. its not like the e dollo model thats a flagship ski year after year with input from henrik. j skis supports amazing skiers but they aren’t creating “legends”
