Making an edit

bootspaceJust saw an “edit” i tried to make last season and it’s just straight up bad. The tricks themselves definitely could be better/cleaner/faster, but what other things can i do to make my edits a little cooler?

it is struggling to upload, i’ll see if i can’t get it, probably just gonna study some gewgaw videos or something, but i appreciate your willingness to help

If it is an iPhone edit for social media, record in slow motion mode, and then you can adjust the speed of the clips with smooth slow motion on landings and set the clips to normal speed on otherwise mundane parts which is a pretty cool touch imo because you can sync the flow of the clips to the music better. Not sure if my explanation makes sense but if you've seen some short edits on Instagram you'll know what I'm talking about.

You can add any genre as long as the tricks are fye it doesn’t matter but good music does improve it. but i wouldn’t say makes or breaks an edit I’ve seen sick edits with questionable music and it’s still fye

Music won't necessarily break or make an edit but it's obviously a big part of the enjoyment. I think most people can tolerate a lot of different types of music as long as it goes with the skiing well. Like you wouldn't want a rick ross song for a pvc edit. Try to find songs that most people haven't heard, and naturally you shouldn't use songs that have been used before.

Getting a fisheye can help get a better variety of shots. Nothing wrong with an edit all filmed on long lens, but certain shots will look better on a fish and it will allow you to get follow cams. For fisheye follows, I find that staying in front of the skier will help avoid getting snow sprayed on the lens. Some mistakes I've seen (and have made myself) are not wiping the lens frequently enough, turning off image stabilization, and avoiding buttshots.

In regard to broll, it's all about finding a happy medium for broll to clip ratio. Generally people don't like edits that have too much broll, but at the same time, you want to make an edit, not a highlight reel. Try to include only broll that you think people will find interesting and add something to the video. Don't let shots linger for more than they need to.
