LavisI would like to learn more about park and freestyle skiing. I have only done little jumps and for example I can't yet do rails. I'm 180 cm (5'11) and I have Armada ARV 88 171. Are those good or too short for me? Thank you for help in advance. If it does matter I'm 18 and have skied since I was 6 years old.
freestyler540Yeah, 171 for a 6’ adult is small. 178 should be a minimum. But its only gear talk, what is important and the mental. You wanna ride park? Awesome.
First step is to learn to pop. Jump with your skis on at first, without speed and make sure both skis left the ground. Keep are arm in front of your hips and should be able to get them quickly. Then practice them on the real thing.
Try a spead eagle! Or a twist? Even better try a daffy. Get those jumps down first.
Then just watch people and visualise carefully
teabagIf he’s just starting out he should be interested in knowing if it’s actually a sport he wants to continue doing and not what size his skis are. Once he’s figured that out might as well buy longer skis if he feels like it.
Don’t buy stuff before you’re sure you’re actually gonna need them. A lot of people think they’ll start freestyle skiing, skateboarding, bmx etc. and all the the gear they bought just ends up not being used.
You’ve already got park skis, use them. If you realize they’re too short and are still interested in skiing, get longer ones.
LavisI ski usually 5-10 days a year but haven't really put the time to learn tricks etc. in park. Now I would like to do that. So I know how to ski, but would like to learn more tricks. That is why I asked about my gear and is it the right size.
RolexConnoisseurI am pleasantly surprised at the amount of support this guy is getting for being new, considering the website we’re on. Good job everyone. Seems like things are changing around here.

SteezyYeeterfuck outta here gaper
John18_6ARV 88 171 is a perfect beginner park ski for someone of your size. Longer skis feel more stable at high speeds which is why some prefer it.
Biggest piece of advice is to make as many friends as you can in the park, especially people with higher skill levels. They can give you lots of advice and confidence when learning new stuff.
