DVX100A in 2023

What editing software works best for importing, cutting up, and editing DV footage? There’s a lot of clips I gotta cut up and piece together to make a (ski) movie. What’s the best way to get this done? I’m not opposed to iMovie since I already have it, but it doesn’t seem like the right program for the task at hand.


Any other DVX100A input/tips you might have would be welcome too.

I’m searching around rn and can’t find an answer from this decade lol

I used to film with a dvx100b but I used premiere. I believe davinci is free and I've heard from people that it's pretty decent. Idk if imovie has changed since I last used it but I wouldn't recommend it, especially cuz the clips automatically move to fill in any gaps, if that makes sense. it's annoying when it comes to timing clips. For the export, there are videos on youtube on how to export that footage correctly, so most stuff should be relevant for dvx footage. I'd recommend exporting with a higher bitrate for youtube so yt won't compress it as bad

Sick, thanks for the insight. I'll definitely look into both of those after work today. Its a bit of extra work, but watching the clips we got while importing them, i was blown away by how good it looks.. its almost like GoPros are "too good" these days. Also its so much nicer holding the DVX opposed to a GoPro on a stick.

Vouch for premiere. I use a “free”(pirated) version that gives me random popups all the time I have to close with task manager, but saves me the ungodly price adobe charges for it. It’s pretty easy to work with unless you wanna dabble in more complicated things I find it gets very time consuming. Capcut is free software a lot of my homies use which is super beginner friendly but it is very tiktok based. Davinci from what I’ve heard is great but me personally I do not have any experience with it

What do u mean tiktok based? I don’t use tiktok but I could imagine a software meant for that it would be pretty easy to use

I’m not sure I’m the right guy to ask since I’ve never used the HPX, But I’m really lovin my DVX. The auto focus, the side view screen and the zoom/ record buttons make it super easy for my friends to just pick up and shoot without ruining the shot.

It has a lot of features connected to tiktok, I.E you can directly put tiktok “sounds” or songs by connecting capcut to your tiktok account. It’s pretty chill for short clips I’ve never made a movie before but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot

they both super dope, but dvx looks grittier maybe? I could always scale down my footy to 4:3 but damn dvx looks dope

+1 for Davinci resolve, started using this recently (didn't want to pay for Premiere Pro) and I really like it. I think its actually considered one of the best editors for color grading too, and lots of big movies use it for this. I'm a pretty beginner level editor but I found it easy enough to use

CapCut is the same company as TikTok (ByteDance). Its definitely incredibly easy to use, especially if you're just throwing a couple phone/gopro clips together real quick

Good to know when recording digital, but right now im focused on shooting on Film.

Imo it's the best SD cam, all things considered. I know the vx1000 is dope but it takes a bit more skill/camera knowledge to make the footage look good. DVX is cheap and reliable. As long as you don't care about the import + hassle of dealing w tapes and not being able to play back clips

yea tape looks like a hassle fr, agree its doper than vx.
