After waiting months for my Vishnus to arrive and being super excited to ski on them, the ski shop botched the mounting. They basically took the wrong boot that was smaller and mounted my bindings for it, so now they have to remount the bindings again for my actual boots except due to the previous holes it now can’t be true center mounted. What do I do? Is this a major problem?

They already said they would pay for another pair of skis which I’m thankful for. Ig my main question was am I able to use these botched skis for the rest of this season because I don’t really want to go through all the work to rebind mid season. The guy said he’ll have to redrill which will make the bindings 4mm off center towards the back. Will this hinder my skiing at all?

if it is 4 millimeters you wont notice a difference. 4 centimeters would be a significant difference. I would take the free mount, rock them, and then also take the money for another pair when you are done w these
Our shop policy is if we misdrill a ski or mess it up in any way, we will source a new ski at our expense. We had a new ski tech misdrill a set of JJs that were sold out, and we ended up paying a grand to have one sourced and shipped up from the states. We lost money, but the customer was stoked. Reason why we didn't just remount them is because for certain brands (Armada in this case) warranty is void if a ski is drilled more than once or if a repair was attempted (helicoil etc).

How much does a remount affect the performance of the ski? Should I be worried about my bindings ripping off or something?
Are they wide or wet? you can just remount them backward i just did that yesterday its the same exact ski graffic might look weird but you’ll have something to talk about in the lift line

Won't make a difference. I skied some volkl gotamas that had four sets of holes drilled in them for a season and a bit. Good to hear the shop paid for new skis.
I don’t think you’re going to be able to tell .4 cm. Not ideal but just forget about it and you won’t notice. So the shop is willing to remount your skis and buy you a new pair so 2 pairs of skis? That’s rad, keep going to that shop, that’s above and beyond
Dude thats lowkey best case scenario hahaha. If they can remount and get -4mm from center on the second mount your ballin. as long as the holes aren’t too close from the old mount it wont effect the integrity of the ski at all and theres no way you will notice -4mm, thats such a small difference. To be safe I literally mount my center mounted skis at -0.5, skiing puts you in a naturally forwards stance id rather be too far back than too far forward. And if u get free skis too, Holy fuck man you lucked out. I wouldn’t be upset at all. But it is kinda wack for the shop lol
I would take the mismounted ski, make them buy you new Vishnus while they’re currently on the site. When the new ones come in, say you wanna keep them as a back up pair… then take them to a different shop and center mount. Badabing
I know homies who ride at 0.5cm (5mm) back, they said it's entirely a mental thing, and you'll never actually notice. Go for it.
The used value of the skis might be knocked down a bit, but you shouldn't worry about that. Sounds like you're getting a backup pair of skis for free, congrats man, you definitely made out well in this situation.
And if the shop is willing to own up to their mistake and get you a fresh pair, I'd continue to go to that shop. Those are honest folks.

4mm from center, not from the old holes. They used the wrong boot. I thought the same thing at first too. They must have used a boot that was wayy different size lol

Not OP but I remember a thread on TGR a few years ago where some dude refused to get new skis. He ran a bunch of tests on different ways to plug old holes and ended up packing holes with sawdust and wood-glue. He was able to remount over those filled holes and claimed, anecdotally, that he had multiple seasons on the skis. I've rocked holes within a few millimeters of each other and haven't had problems.
