Replying to Content rant

I'm fs going to get a lot of flame for this just because a lot of you aren't the biggest fans of my skiing and some of these opinions not everyone will agree with but I've been talking with some of my close homies and they can agree with a lot of this. Also I apologize in advance because some of what I'm about to say has already been talked about on here.

First of all I want to say it's super sick how many crews there are these days. I watch pretty much every edit/movie that gets posted on here or youtube and the amount of people in the backcountry and streets is insane. I'm finding new skiers that I think are dope almost daily. That part I am extremely stoked about. I am all for getting more people involved in the sport and it certainly helps when there is a plethora of content. Not sure how many of you come on here daily and watch all the edits, but for the few of you who do, you know you could easily fill a week with edits/movies that have dropped in the past month. And we still have a bunch of dope projects to drop in the next month or so.

The next few paragraphs might seem like I'm hating on the sport but I'm just trying to voice my opinion and see if it aligns with anyone else or maybe I'm just an oldhead.

Why did we get rid of individual parts? it seems as if 80% of the projects have gotten rid of having individual parts and its just a compilation of everyone's skiing. If this is done correctly it can be sick. Forre did a great job of this in Cast when they had all the night shots together and eerie soundtrack to go with it. Daycare also did a good job of this with their last song. They had all the banger clips aligned with a banger soundtrack to match. So I'm not saying a compilation edit can't be done well, but it just seems every group is taking random songs and throwing them together with a bunch of clips. In my opinion this makes people shots and whole movies less memorable. I love watching someone's part to a song and getting super stoked and then blasting that song the next week. That gets me hyped. I can't do that when theirs 5 skiers skiing to one song that doesn't fit the skiing of half the skiers riding. Editors need to take advantage of a song complementing someone's skiing. Every skier has a type of music that matches their skiing. Editors should use that to their advantage to have people remember someone's part.

Riders need to do their research. I only think a few are going to agree with this but it bums me out seeing the new generation of skiers hitting features that the previous generation have hit. I get this can be quite difficult because we only get snow in certain areas and there is a fuck ton of content out there so it's hard to know what has been done. But I just made a full movie in Utah where everyone thinks all the spots have been hit and we were able to find a ton of stuff no one has hit. Get on google earth and do your research. If you are going to hit stuff that people have hit at least do a different trick. I've seen a ton of people doing what people have done in the past. There are so many different tricks now on skis at least change it up and add a little spice to it so you can be different. I get it not everyone watches every edit but I think the new generation needs to pay homage to the past and do their research.

I feel like I'm wasting time with a couple movies. I watched a movie the other day and half of the clips I'd had already seen in other projects. Why are people sharing clips they want to use for their project. If you are going to share a clip with someone and they say they are going to use it for their project then don't use it. If its handful of clips whatever, but when I've seen 15+ clips in another edit that's just a little much for me. Also no one cares about your B-roll unless its degenerate behavior or funny antics. Seriously we've seen a jump get built 1000x times before. And cut it out with the slow-mo. We get that you want to have this long project, but when you have one clip last 30-60 seconds because of the slow-mo I really don't want to see anymore. If you want to slow-mo your ender or clips or where you need to see something specific go for it but when it's a mid clip in the middle of the movie please stop.

I understand it may seem like I'm hating on the sport but that's not how I'm trying to come off. I just believe with the amount of talent in the ski community and how easy it is to make movies we could be doing a better job. I honestly am not nazi about people building jumps on the wrong side of the rail or not shoveling the stairs. The group I ski with breaks a lot of the "unwritten" rules but I don't say anything cause I'm just stoked they are willing to do this gnarly shit with me. Like I said in the beginning I want more people partaking in this sport. I just feel like with how easy it is to make movies we are losing an art to it and its bumming me out. That's enough from me. I'll get off my high horse now and get back to rehabbing but thought I'd stir the pot on here like I do every year. Thanks in advance for the downvotes.
