Visualization Training

What do you guys think about visualization training in skiing? Any of you sit around practicing a trick in your mind with intent of improving rather than just imagining yourself looking cool in an edit? I've found skiing to be a constant mental battle of trying to overcome fear and repeated failure, how do you guys overcome mental blocks? How do the pros do it?

the visualization gets in the way of me falling asleep tbh. Overcoming the fear is related to the situation cause peer pressure, conditions, and alcohol can all be factors among others. Sometimes it feels right and other times it doesn't, it can be hard distinguishing what is just fear vs what is your gut telling you no.

yeah, definitely easier said than done though but I think it can help alittle bit. I visualize what my body has to do differently but then when i actually try it sometimes it happens sometimes it doesnt. For gnarlier/sketchier tricks i always visualize worst case scenario which kinda sikes me out more. if you gut is telling you no maybe save it for another day but if you think you got it,, run it. Biggest thing i've found with all tricks is: if you think youre gonna eat shit, youre probably gonna eat shit. if you think youre gonna land it, youre either gonna land it or come close enought o safely bail. confidence is half the battle imo

I did way more mind skiing than learning or listening in middle and high school that’s for sure

If I can’t visualize a trick I don’t do it, visualization is key for me. The times where I’ve not be able to and done it anyways I never set the correct axis.

Also I’ve found that if you don’t have access to a tramp, doing a half set of whatever trick ur working on onto ur bed and visualizing the rest helps allot and makes you feel more comfortable when you go and try it on snow.

I tried visualising one trick I had trouble with last year and I got it a lot better after visualization. Also I remember that the red bull cliff diving athletes basically learn all of their tricks in their head through visualization and don't get to actually practice them often so I like to believe that visualization works. Like others have said if I can't wrap my mind around a trick I know I won't even be able to do it.

Watching a 12 year old pull up and fucking grease the trick you've been visualizing for weeks is a great way to fast track progress

There needs to be studies done to prove shredsauce improves skiing ability.

Visualization kind of works but honestly muscle memory is far more effective. Find a local pool with a diving board or trampoline park or gymnastics place and get your air sense up for the season. Even doing stair jumps keeping your eyes forward will pay off bigtime when you get on snow. Part of the fear is you do something on snow and your body freaks out because we are not evolutionarily designed to be in the air. If you train o get used to that you will be surprised how much that fear goes away. Diving boards are especially useful because your instinct is to look down on the board when you jump and you need to mentally force your eyes to the horizon. Even just going repeated straight jumps doing this for 30 min and you will be amazed how much cleaner your pop is off cliffs and jumps and your spins will be so much cleaner.
