I'm in a bit of a staff housing scenario so I get a pretty good rotating cast of characters. Right now we got a very lost intern who definitely did not get enough positive socialization growing up. Dude will awkwardly ask you how it's going when he sees you in the morning and then ask the same question when he sees you at the office ten minutes later. Honestly might buy him a We're Not Really Strangers card deck or something just to help learn how to ask better questions and engage in better conversation. Makes for great stories but it's sad seeing it in a genuinely nice dude who is 21 and struggling to figure himself out.

Why TF is he still your roommate?!?

Roommate had a girl in his room, they were having sexy time, after a while he walks out, naked with a boner, goes through the common room to the kitchen only to come back with a bottle of olive oil and went back to his room. Dude didnt say a thing, straight face.

The knife thing is scary. Next time file a police report if it gets worse. How hard is it to get out of the lease also? If it's month to month then I'd start looking for other places as Plan B if you can't get this guy out and replace him with someone else as much as that sucks. This dude is damaging your own property and others and if it happens again, call the cops and get that fucker bounced out

Back in College, Sophomore year I was living off campus. In the living room we had this coffee table my uncle gave me. It is an old colonial ship door what was the for pantry, this table is sturdy AF, easily 75 lbs of solid wood, iron straps and lacquer, it can support the weight of 3 full grown man standing on it without flexing in the slightest, it's sturdy. I come home from work around 7pm one evening and there is a fully naked man tied, face down with a ball gag in his mouth to said table, My roommate walks out of the Kitchen, also naked, proudly displaying his manhood. He looks at me half shocked and he says "Shit man, I thought you weren't off work till 11pm tonight......So I guess we will clean up here and we can all go get a bite to eat?" Like it was no big deal he was tying MF'ers to my coffee table and fucking them in the Living room! 😂



We did not get a bite to eat that night and it was not the last time I saw similar things to the scenario described above. What a wild year that was

In a different house I had a roommate who I'm confident did not brush his teeth once for the entire year I lived there. I'd have to keep my door closed when I was out of the house to keep his smell from getting my room. He ate only soup because (I assuming) his mouth was so fucked up.
One time I came back from a weekend away to find dried green substance all over the bathroom. I told he had to start being cleaner in the bathroom, he asked why and I told him about what I found. To which he replied with "what does that have to do with me"
The final straw was when I was down stairs watching TV, I hear him rummaging around the silver ware drawer. Go into the kitchen to find spoons still with FUCKING SOUP ON THEM, in with the clean silverware. I had to leave the house to cool down and got set up with a new place to live within the hour. It was the closest I've ever felt to needing to beat the actual shit out of someone

Not as bad but my brother had a buddy that came into his dorm room on move in day and the first he saw of his roomate was him jerking off into the trash can. He ended up switching to a new room. I mean on a long enough timeline your probably going to catch your roomate jacking off but you cant start off on that shit.

I have never had anyone as crazy as the ones in this thread but I did have some entertaining ones.

When I was in college I went to the gym with one of my roommates. He would refuse to do legs, and make fun of me for doing squats. He tried to prove to me that doing legs was a waste of time by showing me a YouTube video where girls said they weren’t interested in a guy’s ass.

I had another roomate who would blast extremely loud dubstep at all hours and only date psycho chicks, and would never clean anything and only ate frozen or canned food.

I've had a ton of odd roommate situations but I would by far have to say the most abstract was one time in college I had a guy who was diabetic (something I knew nothing about at the time) living with me.

I came home one day and found him in my room sitting on the foot of my bed completley butt ass naked flipping through one of my text books. I shouted at him to get out of my room and he looked up at me confused and said something that made no sense like he was drunk asf. More shouting, more confused roommate. I called his girlfriend and she said something to the effect of "GIVE HIM SOME JUICE OR SOMETHING WITH SUGAR IN IT RIGHT NOW, MAKE HIM DRINK IT" which I thought was going to be a battle but I just handed it to him and he drank it.

Turns out he was hypoglycemic and actually at risk of passing out. More of a medical emergency then anything but certainly one of the more interesting ones.

had a chair arm get all carved up one time by someone my roommate had over while I was away. it was a recliner in the shared living room. most likely was her sketchy boyfriend. years later we found out he died in jail. I moved on but my other roommates stuck around for a couple more months and had some other unfortunate stuff happen like their rent money getting stolen before they moved.
tldr getting stuff slashed in your house might be a red flag

my roommate freshman year would have girls over all the fuckin time and would never give me a heads up, which was fuckin weird cuz when I would have girls over id always let him know. id be in bed about to fall asleep and some chick would knock on our door and sooner or later they would be fuckin. First couple times I just put the pillows over my head and eventually pass out, but once it kept happening I was just over it and I would walk out when they started goin just to be passive aggressive like that. eventually I confronted him about it and after the semester he moved out

Was living in Portland Maine with a bunch of people in a brand new apartment complex. We had a few people over and were wasted but everyone left and I went to bed as I had class the next morning.

Turns out my roommates ended up getting into a massive brawl with people in the courtyard which resulted in someone being smashed over the head with a skateboard and another being sliced in the face with a screen from a window. I woke up to random ass people in our house who cut down a tree from outside and used clothing to drag it up to the second floor and into our window. I also had a death lens to a vx2100 stolen.

We were evicted less than a month after the complex opened and I had no part in anything that happened.

I took a long hard look at who I was friends with at that point and made some drastic changes in my life.

I've never had too much trouble, probably because I knew most of my roommates ahead of time. Only basic lazy shit, not cleaning, parking like assholes, yelling at cod at 3am daily, and not cleaning a bathroom to the point of it literally growing mushrooms out of the floor.

I am a shitty friend tho. Was at a party and got so drunk I punched a hole in the wall saying "He can't get mad at me". Well guess who fixed the wall? Not me. And we are still good friends lmao.

Had a roommate through employee housing sharing a room. Was addicted to xannax. Passed out in the fridge a couple times or just nodded off msking dinner . Was interesting. Put a cat into the trees snd hit another cat in the shop yard after once . Rolled his truck 7 times on the way home. Bad night. Didn't get fired but eventually switched departments. Then quick cause they asked him to wash his hair and he was working guest services. Idk was weird

I haven’t had anything like some of these roommates. I’ve had mostly roommates who did annoying things rather than dangerous.

The one that sticks out was in Salt Lake City, Utah. I lived there for like 3 months. My roommate was the son of the landlord. He would just use my stuff and not say anything. Not like use a coffee mug. I’m talking about take my skis, my boots, etc. to go skiing. He, also, took my Xbox home to Provo during thanksgiving. I come back and my Xbox didn’t have controllers because he forgot them in Provo. He couldn’t understand why I was shocked and irritated. Like dude, if you ask - I’ll probably say yes. But that way just made me feel pissed off.

The worst I had was when I was stationed in Korea. This 27 year old lady was the drunk company whore. She got wasted every day and had guys over every night. Our rooms in the barracks were very small and you can hear Everything your roommate does. My appreciation for heavy metal began here. I would go to sleep with headphones on to drown out the noise. She'd have lunch break band sessions too. Sometimes her partners would come over to my side of the room and try to get me to join in on the fun. I never did. Gross. I even threw out my section sergeant one night. I was 19 at the time and was more responsible than she was. One night she got so hammered out in the bars that she fell and broke her wrist, didn't come home that night. But that didn't stop her. She still kept at it with easily a new guy every week or so. When we went out we had to be with someone so by default as her roommate I got stuck having to go out with her. I lost track of how many times I had to take her home because she couldn't do it herself. She liked gambling too so she'd blow her $600 paycheck in one night. She started leaving her $ with me because she knew it. So I ended up being her bank. Oh God I was so happy when she left.
I almost forgot this nasty memory. My 19th birthday, I came back midday from buying some groceries and walked in on her with 2 guys. She was sucking on one of the squad leaders while another guy from our platoon was getting her from behind. I turned right back around and sat in the common room with my groceries.
My next roommate after her wasn't quite as bad as her. She had a lot of sex too but at least wasn't an alcoholic and stayed with the same guy. But his feet stunk soooo bad I had to open the windows, light scented candles, and turn on a box fan.

Holy shit dude, rough. When I was 19 Andrew Reynolds was bumming smokes off me. And I'm from Flint. Had my share of guns in my face, crack people stuff. But man, you really painted a picture. Fuck. Yeah my roommate is a 28 year old commercial/charter fisherman still finding himself. Sometimes opiates and speed found him. I'm safe, I'm not gonna bring it up, it's moreso just disappointing

Lived with 30-something year old dudes for a minute when I was 21. My one roomate became a pillhead quickly after a work accident and he ended up just Gaming all day long while only leaving his room to run to the liquor store once it opened and to grab checks from the mail. Really sad shit. His Brother was close friends with my other roommate I guess and they ended up staging an intervention and sent him to rehab. Hope he's doing well now cuz I moved out shortly after. That dude used to house Captain Morgan & Coke like it was his job. Being a 21 year old skibum living with other 30-something year old alcoholics also isn't a good idea but I got free weed out of it.

Then I lived with a climberbro from Oregon who was a nice dude but was a lil strange. He told me once that since he's been living the "Dirtbag" life for so long camping and climbing, that he doesn't even need a bed and just sleeps on his floor in a sleeping bag/lays on the floor while watching TV. I'd come home from work or from being on the road for work and he'd have random homies crashing in our tiny-ass living room (it was a mother-in-law apartment) with all their gear sprawled out wall-to-wall. They'd help themselves to appliances and shit and never clean them/replace coffee/etc. It was annoying but I just wanted to get up early and go ski/come home and chill and sleep. I think he told my landlord I was smoking weed in the garage which wasn't cool.

Along with trashed the bathroom and slept on the floor because he didn’t like the bed. I couldn’t deal with that shit before racing so i payed outta my own pocket to get my own room the next two days. Best 400$ i’ve ever spent

This is the most Army/Korea thing I've ever read.

On a similar note, doing barracks inspections in the Army I've seen things that blew my mind. Manmade horrors beyond my comprehension.

Few things I've seen/heard:
-30+ spitters, completely full, most with no caps
-Dude who ETS/Dishonorably Discharged somehow didn't clear his room and it wasn't realized for 2 months.... food and laundry; he just left everything in there and flew out (smelled like a dead body in there, thankfully not my unit)
-Girls room with numerous gallon jugs of piss, I didn't see it first hand but it was legendary
-Couple banging in a room during a battalion-wide barracks inspection... both wearing headphones
-Two people found their roommates dead in one year (both natural causes)
-Dude on confinement (for some fairly serious crimes) "escaped" out a third-story window by tying clothes together, cartoon style. There's a video of it which was also used at his final court martial.

idk i get along with everyone so pretty good roommates overall. the most uncomfortable times were always my ex being a fuckin bitch to people and me trying to walk a tightrope between her and others. so exhausting. dont miss that

the guy who lived below us took my football and signed it ‘Robbie G #1 in your hearts’ then when he was moving out said it was his because his name was on it lmao. 1 of 2 people that I’ve seen smoke crack off foilies.

My roommate wasnt crazy , but first year in SLC moved into a two bed apartment complex with my homie, upstairs unit had 12 mfrs living in it who worked at 5 am and didn't speak any english, constantly had our apartment flooded and eventually our ceilings caved in, but utah has some bum ass renters laws so we had to pay a fat sum to break our lease. Below stairs neighbors hated us to and always called the cops on us for smoking weed and bumping music. Had a blast except for the flooding and consntaly waking up at 5 am to the sound of boots and toilet flushing, but hey got to ski that utah pow. Dont sign a lease unless you know its good boys.

Had to share a dorm room for a week with an overweight special needs kid freshman year hs.

On day zero he filled the toilet bowl with green liquid excrement and toilet paper. It was hopelessly clogged. Someone was going to need to vacuum his shit out of the toilet or something. I gave up on using the toilet in there on day 1 but he took ANOTHER equally vile shit in there and the bowl was brimmed.

I locked the bathroom door and shut it from the outside to keep him out. Nobody came to fix the toilet or unlock the bathroom door. His shit just festered in there behind the door all week. I wonder if any of the house keeping staff looked in that bathroom before the fall semester started. Someone could have moved into that dorm and been greeted by that.

When I came home my family said that I smelled like poop and so did all my clothes.

ALSO he set the thermostat to its lowest setting and I was freezing my fucking ass off in his poop stench room

I let a guy who was a friend at the time/ coworker stay in my front yard in a trailer, I only charged him 75$ a month for it, he couldn't even pay that. Regardless he started using the house like he lived there, and wouldn't clean or anything. One day I go off on him, me and my room mate (who actually lived in my house) agreed that he was out. So we tell him, the dude called out my room mates PTSD, he held it together real well all things considered, tossed him out of the house.

I got to keep his cat.

Also not sure if I mentioned we found out the dude in the first post was smoking fake percs, aka blues, which are fentanyl. He stopped actually or just didn't do it around us anymore but he just bailed to go crab fishing and didn't pay rent so idk I'm pretty over it at this point, I tried to help

Bruh I’d beat his ass to teach him a lesson

I rented a 3 bedroom house when I was around 20 with 2 of my best buds. One of my roommates(B) was always away for work for 1+ month at a time so he was never really around, but we took in one of his old friends (J) that lived in our unfinished basement for cheap. Then there was me and (T).

I dabbled with experimenting with drugs but I was mainly a drinker. It was mostly just Booze and weed around the house. We started to have this guy coming to the house periodically asking is T was around. T had a girlfriend he was always with and I didn't run into him much except for when he came home from work so I always told this guy I hadn't seen him. This happened for a month or two until T finally had his tires slashed on his car.

Within a month of this happening, I invited a friend (L) over to kick it and drink. He really didn't want to come to the house, he wanted to go out to the bars but I wasn't feeling it. I finally convinced him to come over. Myself, J, and L are just sitting in the living room on couch watching a movie, drinking, passing a blunt around. To give you a visual, we had an big L-shaped couch that went up against 3 very large windows to the front of the house.

T was home and was walking back and forth from his room, through the living room, and looking out the front door. T was acting himself, making comments on parts of the movie he liked, laughing with us, and we would pass him the blunt every time he walked by. After 20min or so, T finally walked out the front door and onto the front deck in front of the large windows. I go to pass the blunt to J on my left and am now facing the large windows. As soon as J puts his hand on the blunt, we heard an extremely loud *BANG* and I watch T fall to the ground outside. Me, J, and L jump up from our seats. I run to the front door to look out the window (dark outside) and see a vehicle backed into our driveway with someone standing at the back of the vehicle. I immediately lock the door and yell that someone just shot T. J and L immediately run out the back door into the back yard. I throw on some muck boots sitting next to me and realize in those seconds that person would have been able to push the house and be at the deck and would be seen through the door or large windows if I head to the back door. In those split seconds, I just accepted I was fucked and that I was next. I take cover behind the corner of the entry way peeking at the door and take out my phone and call 911.

The dispatcher answers "911 what is the address of your emergency". I was in so much shock that all I could say was "ummmmm" about 5 times while the dispatcher asked me the same question. I was finally able to blurt out what had happened. The unknown person I saw never came to the front door so I pushed forward to try and look out the door and into the driveway. The vehicle was now gone. Looking out the window, I could see a gun on the deck and T laying face down. That's was when I realized that T had just shot himself. I opened the door and just peered down at T telling the dispatcher what I was looking at. T was taking periodic deep breathes and started yelling at the dispatcher to get an ambulance and asking where it was as he was still breathing. At the time I did not know this, but T was having agonal breathes, he was dead. The dispatcher asked me if I knew CPR. I didn't at the time which I told him, but also explained that there was too much blood and that I couldn't do anything. The police and ambulance showed up a few minutes later.

By this time, J and L had come back to the house. The police separated all of us to question us and make sure our stories lined up to make sure they were not dealing with a homicide. I remember at the time being so upset being treated like I was a suspect and criminal. L does not do very well with law enforcement and I could hear him crying and yelling at the officers. The officer I was with brought me over to his patrol vehicle and allowed me to sit in the passenger seat with him while we talked about the events that just happened. The officer then allowed me to call B to tell him what had happened as he was away at work.

I later found out that T was an undercover pill head. All the clues were there, I was just oblivious to it happening right in front of me at the time. Me not seeing T often? T window to his room was on the front of the house. He left the window unlocked and when he came home/left, just crawled through the window so we never knew he was there. The guy at the end of the driveway and the one who kept coming to the house looking for T? That was his drug dealer who he owed approximately $4,000.00. After T dodged him for so long, he couldn't take the harassment from him anymore, his drug habit, and the issues he was having with his girlfriend. T called up his drug dealer, told him to meet him at the house, and then shot himself with a gun he stole from his Dad as the drug dealer walked towards him to confront him on the front deck.

Of course this experience traumatized J, L, and me. To make an already long story shorter, J is not alive anymore as he went down the drug route and overdosed. L ended up getting into heroin, but is now clean. He is not the same person that I once knew. Me? It took me years to figure myself out, but I hated how the police treated us that night and made it a goal to start a career in law enforcement so that no one had to feel the way that I did that day and have someone they could rely on in the moments they needed someone most. I've now been a Police Officer for 7 years dealing with the same situation more times than I can remember. I've been there to talk people out of taking their own life, I've been there and watched people take their life in front of me while I was there, reliving the worst day of MY life. I've also received life saving awards for people that I have saved after they attempted to take their own life. I probably wouldn't be the person I am today with out this whole experience, and I wish T was still here today, but it will haunt me the rest of my days.
