Detuning with a Dremel

I got into park skiing last year and detuned my skis with a file which worked fine but was time-consuming and I feel like I could have done a better job. I have a Dremel and a bunch of bits and feel like this would be a much quicker way to detune but I have no clue what bit to use or how to go about it. If anyone has used a Dremel to detune lmk what you used and how it worked.

IDK but often when using a dremel its is difficult to get an even result. Maybe if you have or make some sort of mount so you can apply presure evenly along the part you want to detune. Otherwise you would get a breadknives edge real quick.

I've used a Dremel before to detune underfoot, but you have to be extremely careful as stated above. I just used a small metal cutting wheel attachment, but if you don't have a steady hand you'll definitely end up with some serrated edges

I did this with a metal cut-off disc as well and found it to be simple and effective. Then finished it with a combination of sandpaper in increasingly fine grades and a tiny wire wheel on the Dremel. You can get a nice blend into the sharp edge and use a gummy stone to go over everything.

Just get gummy stone, and a bastard file. Ur over complicating it. A Dremel will be all over the place and can potentially take too deep of a cut out if your edge. Ur just trying to round off the edge, not kill it. Think about it like this… You’re trying to turn a sharp knife into a butter knife.

Gummy stone and file work well I learned quick a dremel did more damage than taking the time to gummy and file.

I personally like using my dremel. I have a cheap one, run it at a slowish speed, and it makes quick work. Leaves kind of a rougher edge but the gummy stone makes it good enough for what I need.

Mill bastard file. The swix medium ones are good but a decent one from a hardware store will be cheaper. Shouldn't take more than like 10 mins to dull both skis.

A file can get the ski super super super dull but if you want a perfectly round edge use your dremel. I used to file detune all my skis very aggressively and just got tired of it the dremel is so much better. You won’t file your edge off unless your an absolute moron so you chillin homie

I use an old dewalt angle grinder with a grinding disc. it only takes too much off if your being dumb with it

Yeah I just smoothed out some edge cracks and did extra detune underfoot with a flap disc on my grinder, took like 30 seconds seems to have done an excellent job. Think it’s a 60 grit
