cadebucketThe arc boot was one of the most hilarious failures of an overpriced piece of outdoor gear.
I was talking about hiking and mountaineering boots.... but hey lets talk about the ski boot.
the procline didnt sell well. guys at shops would literally discourage people from buying it lol. i picked up a pair in 2019 5 years after their release at monods in banff for $250. so overpriced omg
its ultra low volume and the integrated gaiter and over molded rubber made it really really hard to do any boot work on it. heat it up a little too much that shit comes right off. no opening to get a grinder in either. so you needed a pretty particular foot shape for it to be feasible. same goes for the backland and xalp carbon boots.
was it overpriced??? compared to other carbon skimo boots, not really. the race guys that could dish out 2k on a boot would not have picked it anyways. its a mountaineering boot that can lock up and ski. not a huge market for that.
was it a good boot??? i have owned it. i never really felt comfortable in em so i sold em. i have roughly 30km and 2000m vert over three days. the walk mode locking mechanism is seriously superior to anything on the market even now. it released the boot on two pivoting axis. literally felt like a shoe going up. transitions were quick. you didnt really have to unbucke the top or take off the power strap to get good range of motion. you could transition without having to pull up your pants or take off your gloves. the downhill was the only place it was lacking. you couldnt drive big skis with it and you couldnt exactly ski hard in them. just too soft. for hop turns or following a singletrack down and out of a forrest, they were fine.
tldr; im bored at work
